Aayush
"Babe, please"
I begged her as she sat on the couch grumpily, her lips adorably pouted.
Sighing, when I tried to lift her chin, she swatted my hand away and said,
"Nalaiku namma museum polaam'nu plan panneerndho"
(We had a plan to go to the museum tomorrow, together)
I smiled and asked,
"How can I forget that?"
But she frowned harder and said,
"But you're leaving me. Alone"
"Not alone"
I corrected gently.
She was going to be with her friend Kamali for the next three days while I went on an industrial visit trip with the second-year students.
She crushed my shirt collar in her fists, pulling me closer, and whispered,
"You'll be safe?"
I chuckled and said,
"Of course, I will, ma. Naan enga army'ka poren? I'm just going to Coorg, and that too only for three days"
(Am I going to the army or what? I'm just going to Coorg, and that too only for three days)
Still, she pouted even more and said,
"Aana naan miss pannuven"
(But I'll miss you)
I cupped her cheeks and said,
"I'll miss you more. But... I have to go. Just three days. Please?"
She nodded but then said,
"Anga ponadhum enna marandhuraadhinga"
(Don't forget me once you reach there)
And I chuckled, again, replying,
"Nee un friends kooda enjoy panneetu enna marandhuraadha"
(You enjoy with your friends and don't forget me either)
She said,
"Naan'laa marakka maaten, Mr. Aayush"
(I won't forget, Mr. Aayush)
"Same here, Mrs. Aayush"
I replied, pinching her cheeks playfully.
Then I gently pulled her face a little down and pressed a kiss to the center of her eyebrows.
Pulling back, I looked into her eyes and asked softly,
"So?"
She blinked and swallowed, and I continued,
"Pack pannattumaa? Green signal dhane?"
(Shall I pack now? It's a green signal, right?)
She nodded, still pouting slightly, and said,
"Green signal"
I snickered, kissed her cheeks, and straightened up from my knees, turning to head into our room to start packing.
But I stopped immediately, feeling a gentle tug on my little finger.
I turned back to see her tiny fingers curled tightly around mine.
