The afternoon sun cast long shadows over the old church, its stained glass windows fractured and dim. The building loomed, weathered by time and cloaked in an unsettling silence. Bonnie, Lucy, and Josh stood at the threshold, the air around them was surrounded with strange, and strong energy.
Lucy shivered, her eyes darting around. "You feel that too, right?"
Bonnie nodded, her gaze fixed on the worn wooden doors. The sensation was both invigorating and unsettling, an ancient magic that seemed to pulse in sync with their own heartbeat. Bonnie couldn't help but shiver. Ever since she had left the compound she had been feeling this strange power in the air. It felt familiar but she couldn't pinpoint what it was.
With a deep breath, Bonnie pushed open the doors. Josh stayed behind as he didn't want to be near the coven witches as they had their fair share of prejudice towards his kind.
The hinges of the door groaned in protest, revealing the interior of the church. Dust motes danced in the dim light filtering through the broken windows, and the scent of mildew and forgotten incense lingered in the air.
Inside, the church was far from empty. The grand hall, though in disrepair, retained a certain grandeur. At the altar stood Vincent, and the seats in front of him were filled with the leaders of the eleven covens. Their presence was commanding, their faces etched with the seriousness of the occasion. The atmosphere was tense as they discussed forming alliances in anticipation of upcoming threats.
Outside the church, Rebekah arrived a bit later and saw Josh leaning against his car, looking less than enthusiastic.
"Josh, darling, aren't you going inside?" Rebekah asked.
Josh shook his head. "Those witches don't like me, so I do not like them either," he replied.
Rebekah smirked. "Those judgy little creatures. I'll just wait here with you then." She leaned against his car and pulled out a small mirror to check her makeup. As she applied a touch of lipgloss, she felt Josh's eyes on her.
"Spill it, Josh. What is it?" Rebekah said, not looking up from the mirror.
Josh hesitated. "Nothing," he murmured.
"Come on, Josh. Don't play coy with me. You're my go-to for gossip. Spill it." she insisted.
"Well," Josh began, "there's something different about Bonnie."
Rebekah's hand paused as she put away her mirror, her attention fully on him. "What on earth do you mean?" she asked.
Josh shrugged, unsure whether to share his thoughts. Finally, he decided to keep his suspicions to himself, not wanting to stir trouble. "She's glowing. I wonder what skincare products she's using lately—or maybe it's magic?" he lied, forcing a casual tone.
Rebekah raised an eyebrow. She knew Josh well enough to sense he was hiding something. Still, she chose to let it go for now. "Well, she's a Bennett witch. They're renowned not only for their extraordinary power but also for their remarkable beauty.," she said with a smirk.
