As Bonnie, Jenny, and Mary walked through the streets, Bonnie's gut twisted with an odd sensation. Something was off. Her steps faltered as her frown deepened. It wasn't just paranoia—something was wrong. It hit her all at once: Klaus had shut off his part of the bond. She couldn't feel his emotions. He must have closed it when he left. She hadn't noticed until this moment. And not only that, her gut feeling was telling her that something was wrong with him. The realization sent a chill through her spine. Bonnie abruptly stopped in her tracks.
Both Jenny and Mary halted and turned to face her, concerned.
"What's wrong?" Mary asked.
"I don't know... I can't feel Klaus's emotions," Bonnie replied, her eyes wide with rising panic. "I think something's wrong."
Jenny and Mary exchanged glances.
"We need to take you home. Right now!" Mary said, her voice firm with concern.
"No... I need to find out what's wrong with Klaus first!" Bonnie's heart raced, her worry mounting as she thought about the vision she had of him a while a go, of him lying on the ground, a gaping wound in his chest. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes.
Mary stepped closer, her voice soft but urgent. "We will, once we get you back to the mansion. Don't forget, you're carrying twins. You can't just run around looking for Klaus."
But Bonnie wasn't listening. Her mind was racing, every instinct screaming that something terrible had happened. She could barely focus on Mary's words, her anxiety building to a fever pitch.
Jenny noticed Bonnie's dazed expression and grabbed her arm gently. "Let's go, Bonnie. We'll figure it out once we get home, okay? My sire is probably there already." She looped Bonnie's arm around hers, guiding her along.
They reached Mary's car after what felt like an eternity of walking. As Mary dug into her purse for her keys, a familiar voice called Bonnie's name. Her heart sank. She knew that voice.
Lucien.
"What a pleasure it is to see you again, Bonnie Bennett," Lucien said smoothly. "You look absolutely exquisite, my dear."
Mary rolled her eyes. She couldn't stand Lucien.
Bonnie's mounting anxiety turned to rage. She turned slowly to face him, her eyes narrowed with contempt. He stood there, a bouquet of yellow, pink, and red flowers in his hands, his smile infuriatingly smug.
"I thought you might appreciate these," Lucien said smoothly, stepping closer. "A little gift for you before the festivities tomorrow."
Bonnie's expression hardened as she looked at the flowers, then back at him. "What do you want, Lucien?" Bonnie snapped.
"Well," Lucien said, walking toward them, "I was just taking a leisurely stroll through the streets when I spotted you with the charming Mary and your little hybrid companion. I assumed you were out shopping for my party tomorrow. So, I thought, why not surprise you with a little gift of flowers?" He held the bouquet out to her.
