Bonnie stood at the gates of the Mikaelson mansion, her heart pounding with apprehension. The sense of Klaus's presence was undeniable, but the anticipation of what lay ahead left her on edge. The letters from Elijah had confirmed what her gut had been telling her since Salem—but it was far worse than she had imagined. Fear clawed at her. Would Klaus be angry? Devastated? Lost? Her thoughts were a tangled mess as she hesitated on the doorstep.
Before she could take another step, a familiar figure approached. Jenny, one of Klaus's hybrids, appeared from the shadows. Jenny stared, her eyes wide with confusion and disbelief. This can't be happening, Jenny thought, her mind racing. Was she hallucinating? She blinked hard, trying to clear the fog of doubt clouding her senses.
"Bonnie...?" she whispered cautiously, her voice barely audible. She wasn't sure if what she was seeing was real. Could this be some cruel trick the New Orleans witches were playing? The uncertainty gnawed at her, leaving her frozen in place, unsure whether to embrace the moment or prepare for the worst.
Bonnie offered a reassuring smile. "Yes, it's me."
Jenny's eyes widened, her disbelief giving way to sheer joy as she enveloped Bonnie in a warm embrace. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed, the shock evident in her voice. Bonnie returned the hug, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. Jenny had always been a breath of fresh air.
Jenny pulled back slightly, her confusion evident. "How is this possible? We thought you were..." She trailed off, still struggling to grasp the reality of the situation. "We searched everywhere for witches... We tried everything—"
Taking a deep breath, Jenny added, "I'm sorry, I'm just... in shock."
Bonnie gave Jenny a reassuring smile. "I know. I'll explain everything, but first, I need to see Klaus. Is he home?"
Jenny's expression shifted, a flicker of worry crossing her face. "Yes, he's home," she said quietly. "He's in... your bedroom."
Bonnie's heart sank. Jenny's concerned look told her everything she needed to know—Klaus had not been handling her absence well.
"Thank you, Jenny. I'll talk to you later, okay? Don't let anyone else know I'm back. I want to surprise him." Bonnie flashed a brief smile.
Jenny nodded quickly. "All the other hybrids are out anyway—drinking and blowing off steam. I'm the only one here."
Bonnie gave her a final hug before heading toward the mansion. Every step toward the door sent waves of anxiety coursing through her. Jenny's reaction, the worry in her voice—it all pointed to how much Klaus had suffered in her absence.
Inside, the mansion was eerily quiet. She moved carefully up the staircase, her nerves heightening with every sound, every breath. What if Klaus had given up on me? What if he found someone else? The thought struck her heart like a dagger, but she quickly pushed it away. No, she couldn't think like that. If he had, well, she'd simply have to find that white oak stake and—
