MUDBLOODS VERSUS PUREBLOODS

I looked over the edge to find Draco stood face to face with the one and only, Harry Potter. Draco blocked him while Harry was walking out. Draco was always disgusted by him. He snarled, "Bet you loved that didn't you, Potter? Famous Harry Potter! Can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page!"

"Now, now Blondie," I shut my book with a slam and walked down the steps. "Don't forget, Famous Draco Malfoy, you can't even look at Harry Potter without saying something stupid or rude or just anything in general."

A little red-head girl stepped in front of him, I assumed Ron's little sister, she glared at Draco, "Leave him alone."

Draco smiled widely and mocked Harry, "Look, Potter! You've got yourself a girlfriend."

Harry looked at me and sneered at Draco, "See you have one too, Malfoy."

"That's not very nice, Harry. You see I am only a very humble acquaintance. Slytherin to Slytherin, we have each other's back," I said at the edge of the steps with my hand resting on Draco's left shoulder.

"Ay, Pottah, not so smart are you now!" He smiled more intensely.

Then, a cane, with a snake head on top, hit Draco's right shoulder pushing him to the side. Draco's smiled instantly faded knowing his father stood right behind him. I whispered in his ear, "Nice job, but sometimes... just don't say anything."

He titled his head in my direction to look behind himself, that meant he understood. The man with the cane was none other than Draco's father. He spoke, trying to act nice, "Now, now, Draco. Play nicely." He glared at Harry, "Mr. Potter, Lucius Malfoy. We meet at last."

He extended his hand to Harry, but when he took it, Lucius pulled Harry towards him for a closer look at his scar. "Forgive me," he spoke. "Your scar is legend after all, as of course, is the wizard who gave it to you."

Lucius knew that it was Voldemort who gave Harry his scar, though I guess everyone in the wizarding world and their brother knew about that. Harry responded bravely, "Voldemort killed my parents. He was nothing more than a murderer."

"You must be very brave to mention his name, or very foolish." Lucius looked surprised. It made sense, people are scared of him so they don't speak of him.

Hermione piped in, glaring at him, "Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself."

Lucius looked at her awestruck, "And you must be, Miss Granger. Yes, Draco has told me all about you. And your parents," He looked at them across the room. "Muggles aren't they?"

"Mr. Malfoy..." I glared at him, ready to scold him for possibly going to insult Hermione's parents. I was a muggle too after all, although Lucius didn't know that. All he did was stare at my hand still on Draco's shoulder and raised his eyebrows. I guess he didn't like that, but I certainly didn't care.

He continued anyway looking towards Ron's family, "Let me see. Red hair, vacant expressions, tatty, secondhand books. You must be the Weasleys." He reached into the cauldron the red-haired girl was carrying and took her books examining them.

I clapped jokingly, "Good job, Mr. Malfoy."

He snarled at my remark. A red-haired man approached, Mr. Weasley. He ushered his kids outside to, what seemed like avoid Mr. Malfoy. "Children, it's mad in here. Let's go outside."

But, Lucius stopped him, "Well, well. Weasley Senior."

"Lucius," He greeted him, pure disgust in his voice.

Lucius spoke, "Busy time at the Ministry, Arthur, all those extra raids? I do hope they're paying you overtime, but judging by the state of this," he looked at the girl's book, still in his hand. "I'd say not. What's the use of being a disgrace to the name wizard if they don't even pay you well for it?"

I understood that was a pure insult on the wealth of the Weasleys, he called them poor! Lucius would insult them on blood purity, but the Weasleys were pure-bloods so he insulted their wealth and connections to people like me instead. Mr. Weasley was very clearly insulted by his sentence although he didn't show it, "We have a very different idea about what disgraces the name of wizard, Malfoy."

"Clearly," Lucius answered, he looked over at the Grangers and the Weasleys. "Associating with muggles."

"Hey, those are my friends you're talking about!" I said. Draco shot me a look saying, don't say anything more else I'll hex you!

Lucius didn't bat an eye and dropped the books back into Ron's sister's cauldron and replied, "And I thought your family could sink no lower. I'll see you at work."

And with that he left. Draco looked Harry dead in the eye, "See you at school." Draco rolled his eyes at the whole situation. He grabbed me wrist off his shoulder and pulled me once again, "Come on."

I followed Draco outside with my books and sadly waved goodbye to the Weasleys  and Hermione. I could hear Ron saying, "that traitor!" We went into a few other shops before Draco had to leave.

"Sorry for my father," Was all Draco said to me, but he didn't say a word about Harry, Hermione, or the Weasleys the rest of the way.

He was, eventually, in such a good mood that he ended up having his father buy me the new Nimbus Two Thousand One. It had a highly polished black handle engraved with gold lettering. The twigs were straight and flawless, the tip of the twigs were green and it faded into black. It had a stand attached to it. It was marvelous and flew as fast as one-hundred twenty-five miles per hour.

I thanked Draco for the broom and we parted ways because Mr. Malfoy called Draco for some family business. I went back to the Leaky Cauldron and put my new stuff away. I laid back in bed where Valentino slithered onto my chest, where he fell asleep soundly.
