DUMBLEDORE'S RETURN

When word got out that Harry and I defeated the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, Professor McGonagall sent a letter to the Ministry, calling back Headmaster Dumbledore. He arrived swiftly the next day, and immediately called Harry, Ron, and I up to his office. All three of us anxiously went up the gargoyle staircase to see him.

The inside of his office was filled with magical objects and paintings of former Headmasters. Long purple drapes were hanging from the ceiling, shelves full of books, and a bird perch where Fawkes lay. Apparently, he belonged to Dumbledore.

We presented ourselves with caution and we stepped up to his desk. He spoke calmly, "You three realize, of course, that in the past few hours, you have broken perhaps a dozen school rules."

Ron answered sadly, "Yes, sir."

We all looked down awaiting the punishment for breaking the school rules. Dumbledore continued, "There is sufficient evidence to have all of you expelled."

"Yes, sir," The three of us said.

"Therefore, it is only fitting," he said, "that you three receive..."

We looked at him in anticipation, thinking we were gonna get rightfully expelled. "...Special Awards for Services to the School."

Our faces lit up with joy, instead of expulsion, we got awards. I said, "Thank you, sir!"

Dumbledore got up from his seat, "Now, Mr. Weasley, if you would please have an owl deliver these release papers to Azkaban? I believe we want our gamekeeper back."

He winked at Ron before he turned around to Harry and me, " Victoria, if you would please, wait outside whilst I talk to Harry alone for a moment?"

I nodded, "Yes, Professor Dumbledore. Call me back in if you need me." With that, I left, walking down the gargoyle staircase and into the hallway. I leaned against the wall, waiting. After what felt like forever, something happened, Lucius Malfoy came strutting over.

He greeted me in a suspicious tone, "Miss Haynes."

I stood in front of the staircase, "I'm sorry Mr. Malfoy, but you cannot see Professor Dumbledore, right now, he's busy talking with someone."

He looked at me impatiently, "I must speak with him! Move aside."

"No," I stood my ground. I knew Mr. Malfoy and Harry didn't get along much, especially after the Flourish and Blotts incident before school started.

"Very well, then," He replied sternly. Instead of waiting, he shoved me aside and entered the staircase. That is when I noticed a small creature lurking from behind him. It was a small little elf with large green eyes and big, droopy, pointed ears. It wore a dirty pillow-like rag and kept close to Lucius.

I followed them up the staircase into Dumbledore's office, again. He opened the door to reveal Harry holding the sword he used in the Chamber. I came inside panting, "I'm so sorry, Professor. I told him not to bother you!"

"It's alright, child," Dumbledore nodded. "Mr. Malfoy, if you would come in, as it must be urgent?"

Lucius stepped inside with the elf peeking from the side. Harry stared at him wide-eyed, recognizing him, "Dobby? So, this is your master! The family you serve is the Malfoys."

I interjected, "As in, Dobby the house-elf, who has been visiting you?"

Dobby winced and whimpered. Lucius looked at him furiously, "I'll deal with you later." He walked forwards and approached Professor Dumbledore, pushing Harry aside with his cane. He angrily responded, "So it's true? You've returned."
