A VISIT TO HAGRID'S

The next few days had not been pleasant at all. Harry had discovered that Moaning Myrtle had flooded the girls' bathroom because she was incredibly sad about people throwing books at her. Harry said he had found a diary on the floor and it turns out, it was an empty diary, and the owner of it was Tom Marvolo Riddle. None of us knew who he was, but Harry somehow knew that it was Hagrid who opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago, he didn't exactly have any proof of it either.

We were all discussing this Tom Riddle and trying to not believe it was Hagrid who opened the Chamber of Secrets. Hagrid is a funny fellow, he wouldn't hurt a fly. At least not on purpose. Why would he have some need to set the monster in the Chamber free, especially after all these years?

Hermione had the brilliant idea to confront Hagrid and actually talk to him about it. Harry and Ron decided to plan that they were going to run down to Hagrid's, tonight. I thought it would be extremely risky.

Later in the week, Harry told me that right after that day, Neville ran to tell the trio that the Boys' Gryffindor dormitory had been ransacked. He described that all of his books had been ripped apart and his bed torn to pieces! Feathers, dust, and pages everywhere! Picture frames were shattered and his trunk was empty with all his clothes everywhere. He told me that Tom Riddle's Diary was also gone amongst the mess. Who and why would someone be after a measly little diary with nothing in it?

The next few weeks had gotten even worse. Due to the recent events, Quidditch practice and the games had been canceled, I heard that Gryffindor's captain was highly offended by the action. That means we couldn't play Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, we couldn't get house points, and we wouldn't be able to win the Quidditch House Cup! I didn't really know what to do after that, I had to store my broom away since I no longer had a need for it this year. It was such a bummer I only got to use it once.

Even worse, Ron told me Hermione had been Petrified. He told me Professor McGonagall had told him and Harry that she was in the library with a mirror. Another student was with her and she was also petrified. Draco was disappointed that she didn't die, but he was glad she was petrified. I was angry at him but I couldn't show him that I was.

Due to the two extra petrified people, a curfew had been set. Snape had requested to us that, "All students will return to their house common rooms by 6:00 every evening. All students will be escorted to each lesson by a teacher. No exceptions."

That messed with our plans to visit Hagrid again, we could no longer see him. Harry had the brilliant idea to use his invisibility cloak, a genius idea! We'd slip under it and sneak down to Hagrid's! I begged Harry to let me go so he eventually promised I could go with him.

As the sun set, the moon was shining bright in the midnight sky. I slowly snuck down the grand staircase of the common room, wearing a black polo neck, some black sweatpants, and a black jacket, desperately trying not to make a single sound. Harry waited outside the entrance and I quickly and quietly slipped under the cloak with Ron. We slowly but surely made our way down the stairs, into the courtyard, and down to Hagrid's hut.

We gave a large knock on his wooden door. Instead of a cheerful welcome, we were met with a large crossbow pointed straight at us, "Hullo?" He grunted.

We shoved off the cloak fast so we wouldn't be shot and Hagrid gave a great sigh of relief. He ushered us inside so no one could see us, "What's that for?" Harry asked.

"Nothin'! I was expectin'... I-It doesn't matter. Come in, I just made a pot o' tea," he welcomed.

I had snuck outside during my first year and saw the outside of the hut, but never the inside. Hagrid's hut was filled with pots and pans, bunches of rope, crates, and normal objects that were larger for Hagrid's half-giant size. He pulled out three extra, blue teacups and started pouring the tea. He was shaking and spilled over on one of them. Harry asked concerningly, "Hagrid, are you okay?"
