LETTERS TO FRIENDS
I had been living in the Leaky Cauldron for about a few weeks now. I was eating breakfast with no one around. The bartender from the beginning walked over to me and handed me four letters, "These are for ya and there are four owls outside the pub. By the way, I never introduced myself. I'm Tom, the owner."
"Why thank you, Tom! Wow, this is a lot of letters!" I said excitedly, trying to grab all of the letters with one hand. "From Draco, Ron, Hermione, and a Hogwarts letter."
First, I opened Ron's letter:
Dear Victoria,
It's Ron from school, although you probably already knew that. I just wanted to write to you and thank you for your help with the stone. Harry doesn't seem to be writing back to me so I want to check on him. I hope you're okay. I'm excited to see you back at Hogwarts. My family sends their love (I told them about you and how you helped us). I hope your summer is going well.
-Ron
Second, I opened Hermione's letter:
Dear Victoria,
I wanted to write to you over the summer because I don't have a lot of people to talk to. Harry hasn't written to me at all and Ron is sometimes too excited about things. I'm taking my time this summer to study for school. I've received my letter for our second year at Hogwarts and need to buy new books immediately! There are a whole lot of new books we need from Gilderoy Lockhart. I'm hoping to maybe visit you in Diagon Alley? Please send an owl when you get this.
-Hermione
Third, which came with a bag of sweets, I opened Draco's letter:
Dear Victoria,
I don't really write to anyone much, so you're lucky to receive a letter from me. My mother is eager to meet you after my Father told her about our interaction, if you will. I am hoping to see you this summer and I hope you enjoy the sweets. I didn't know which ones you like the best so I bought a variety. I'm thinking maybe we could meet up in Diagon Alley? Please send back a letter immediately.
-Draco Malfoy
I was so happy, I squealed at all of the letters I had received from my friends. I rushed upstairs to grab some parchment, a quill, and ink to write back to my friends.
To Ron, I wrote:
Dear Ron,
I am pleased to hear from you! I didn't expect to hear from you at all this summer. I was happy to help you with the stone. As for Harry, Hermione hasn't received letters from him either and neither have I. I believe you should go check on him, I'm starting to worry. I hope to see you next year at Hogwarts. Tell your family I said hi.
-Victoria Haynes
To Hermione, I scribbled:
Dear Hermione,
I am so happy to hear from you, Hermione! I am worried Harry isn't alright so I told Ron he should check on him. Ron hasn't received anything from Harry either. I too am going to study for next year, although I haven't gotten my books at all. I hope they are interesting to read. I also would love to see you this summer. It'd be nice to hang out with another muggle-born. Have a good summer and tell your family I said hi.
-Victoria Haynes
Finally, To Draco:
Dear Draco,
I'm glad to hear from you! I didn't expect you to actually write to me over the summer, especially after what happened before school ended. As for your parents, your father seems a little rude, sorry, and your mother seems very kind-hearted. I do hope I get to see you in Diagon Alley. I'm going there on Friday to pick up my new books and other supplies, so I could see you then. Hope you're having a great summer. See you there at 9:00, Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour?
-Victoria Haynes
P.S. The sweets were delicious, please send me more!
After I finished writing to them, I folded the letters, gave them to their owls, and they soared off into the sky in all directions. There was still one more letter, the Hogwarts one. I opened the wax seal to read what was inside.
Dear Miss Victoria Haynes,
We are pleased to inform you that you have successfully passed your first year at Hogwarts. Enclosed within you shall find your Hogwarts report, along with a list of books and equipment necessary for the new school year.
The new school year shall begin soon, we will be waiting for your owl's reply. No later than the 31st of July.
Sincerely,
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
I was officially allowed to attend my second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! I immediately sent back my response saying, I'll be attending my second year and a thank you. I sent my letter to the last and final owl, it flew off towards Hogwarts.
I went back upstairs to put all my friends' letters in a little box that I had saved especially for them. I laid down in bed staring at the ceiling at what I had just read, my friends are writing to me and I'm a second year student!
I looked at the list of books I needed for my second year. I had The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 and I need Grade 2 now that I'm a second year. And Hermione wasn't kidding, there are a whole lot of new books from Gilderoy Lockhart!
There was Break with a Banshee by Gilderoy Lockhart, Gadding with Ghouls by Gilderoy Lockhart, Holiday with Hags by Gilderoy Lockhart, Travels with Trolls by Gilderoy Lockhart, Voyages with Vampires by Gilderoy Lockhart, Wandering with Werewolves by Gilderoy Lockhart, & even Year with the Yeti by Gilderoy Lockhart!
What's next, Zapping with Zombies? I chuckled at the thought. This was kind of stupid now that I thought about it. Gilderoy Lockhart, our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher (since Quirrell died), is making us read his books about his adventures instead of learning new spells? I guess we'll learn about these creatures while learning about how he defeated them. He kind of seems self-centered or narcissistic. But I need to buy them or else I will fail this year. Now, we wait till Friday...
