"Hey, Kimberly, what took you so long?" Hermione asked as Kimberly sat down beside her. Harry and Ron were seated across from them, chatting idly about their last class. Kimberly's heart was still racing from her near-kiss with Draco, and she struggled to keep her composure.
"I... uh... Well, you know that prat is difficult to handle," Kimberly stammered, trying to sound casual as she forced a grin. "I had to practically smack him down just to get him to cooperate." Her attempt at a joke came out more awkward than she intended.
Harry, catching onto the conversation, raised an eyebrow. "Smack him down? That sounds like a story worth hearing."
Kimberly quickly shook her head, waving off the comment. "Nothing worth telling. He was just being his usual annoying self, that's all."
Ron snorted. "That's Malfoy for you. Glad you didn't have to spend any more time with him than necessary. Imagine sitting in that big room with just the two of you. You might end up—"
Before he could finish his sentence, Kimberly's hand shot out, and she hurled her book straight at Ron's face. It smacked him square on the nose, causing him to yelp in surprise. Her cheeks had turned an unmistakable shade of red.
"Hey, what was that for?!" Ron exclaimed, rubbing his nose as he glared at her.
Kimberly crossed her arms defensively, her eyes narrowing. "For running your mouth without thinking, Weasley," she retorted, trying to maintain her composure despite the warmth spreading across her face. "Maybe you should consider that before you start making stupid jokes."
Harry, who had been quietly observing the exchange, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, intrigued by Kimberly's uncharacteristically flustered reaction. He exchanged a curious glance with Ron, who was still nursing his nose, but decided not to press the issue further.
Ron, however, wasn't one to back down easily. "Alright, alright, no need to get all worked up," he muttered, still rubbing his nose but softening his tone. "Didn't realize it was such a touchy subject."
Kimberly forced a laugh, but her mind was elsewhere. The memory of Draco's face so close to hers, the way her heart had pounded in her chest, refused to fade. She felt a confusing mix of emotions swirling inside her—annoyance, disbelief, and something she didn't want to name.
Hermione noticed Kimberly's distracted state and gently nudged her. "Are you okay? You seem a bit off."
Kimberly snapped out of her thoughts and gave Hermione a reassuring smile. "Yeah, just a bit tired, I guess. It's been a long day."
