The digital landscape of Cyberia begins to materialize around me, the sensation of gravity pulling me back into my virtual form. My vision, once a swirling void of dark starlight, gradually sharpens, revealing massive structures emerging from translucent outlines. They solidify before my eyes, transforming into towering, futuristic marvels, each one a testament to the immense scale and grandeur of this digital world. The peaceful silence in my ears is slowly replaced by the lively buzz of activity as the players of Cyberia come into focus, their energetic chatter filling the air. The excitement is palpable, with everyone eagerly anticipating today's event. The calm continually gets swept away by the vibrant pulse of voices and movement, as the digital world springs to life around me.
As the steady hum of my pod fades into silence, I step out of the warmth of the leather seat and into the bustling, vibrant world around me. The energy of Cyberia is palpable, the air buzzing with excitement. My eyes are immediately drawn to the Town Hall, where vibrant lights dance across a massive holographic projection hovering above the grand staircase, boldly advertising today's event. To the right of the staircase, a long queue of players winds down the steps and stretches toward the building, a testament to the anticipation surrounding the competition. I begin my march toward the end of the line, with Morgan and Grayson shortly meeting my pace.
"I've never seen so many players gathered in one area before", Morgan says, her voice breaking through the deafening sounds of player chatter.
Grayson nods, his eyes scanning the crowd. "Yeah, it's like every player decided to show up for this. It's going to be intense."
I look over to Morgan. "It's a good thing Emma isn't participating this time. This is different from any of the events you and I have participated in."
Morgan's eyes slightly drop, but recover as her eyes pierce my hazelly gaze. "Yeah, I feel bad that she couldn't come and experience this, but I also didn't want her to get overwhelmed."
"She'll be ready soon enough to experience an event like this", I say, my gaze matching hers. "Especially with you showing her the ropes of this game".
The line continues to snake its way into the building. In just a few minutes, we went from the very back of the queue to almost reaching the entrance.
"Where's Ian?" I ask, scanning the area for any sign of him.
Both Grayson and Morgan exchange glances, then shrug, clearly as clueless about Ian's whereabouts as I am. I catch their eyes, my concern growing more evident.
"I don't like this," I admit, my voice laced with worry. "I think I'm gonna go look for him."
Morgan furrows her brow. "You sure? We're almost inside."
"Yeah," I nod, taking a step out of line. "I can't just leave him hanging. I'll meet you guys inside the event."
Grayson gives me a reassuring smile. "Okay man, we'll hold down the fort. Don't take too long."
"If I'm not back by the time you have to enter, make sure you pick the red team," I say, my voice firm with a hint of urgency.
Morgan smirks. "Okay, but you better find him fast, or we're picking the blue team just to mess with you."
I let out a slight chuckle as I take one last look at them before turning away and starting my search for Ian.
I begin through the crowd, stepping down the long grand staircase, my mind racing as I scan the sea of faces for any sign of Ian. The buzz of excited players fills the air, but my focus is entirely on finding my friend. I can't shake the feeling that something's off—Ian shouldn't be late for something as big as today's event.
