The day dragged on as I went through the motions in the lab. Kevin seemed to be fitting in well; his enthusiasm and willingness to learn were evident. The devil, on the other hand, maintained a watchful eye, his mood unpredictable. As the clock struck seven, I breathed a sigh of relief. It was finally time to go home, and it was dark outside.
After gathering all my belongings, I moved out of the lab. "I will book a cab since it's really late," I thought. Just as I was about to take my phone out, a car pulled up in front of me. It was the devil.
"Get inside. I will drop you home," he commanded.
"No sir, I booked a cab," I replied politely.
"Just get in the car; I don't like repeating myself," he said demandingly.
What the hell does he think of himself? Who is he to order me around? I get it; he is my boss, but it is past office hours now. I will not listen to him. Call me stubborn; I don't care.
"Can you be fast? I don't have the whole night to wait for you," he said impatiently.
"As I said, sir, I will go on my own," I insisted firmly.
"If you don't get in the car yourself, I will have to get you myself," he said, getting out of the car and striding toward me.
"Wh...at?" I stuttered, taken aback.
In a few seconds, he was in front of me. He pulled my hand, and I landed on his chest. My other hand on his chest, I could feel his heartbeat.
"Sir, this is inappropriate; I am already married," I said, avoiding his gaze.
Just as I said that, he pulled me closer to him, his hands now on my waist. His eyes were glaring at me as if he didn't like what I had just said.
"Really, is it?" he said, breathing on my face.
Both my hands were on his chest, pushing to maintain distance between us. I looked up at his eyes, which were already looking at me.
"You let Kevin touch you. Don't you think that is inappropriate?" he said harshly.
"What ar...e you sa...ying, sir? Kevin didn't touch me," I protested.
"Are we really doing this now? He was touching you when you shook hands with him. You were even smiling at him. I have never seen you smile like that with me," he said, getting closer to my face, his voice tense.
"It was just a handshake. Everyone smiles while doing it, and sir, I don't think you should have any problem with whom I shake hands with. It seriously is not any of your business," I said harshly, looking away.
I can smile at whoever I want. What is his problem?
Just as he was about to say something, someone called my name from behind.
"Hey, Samy," said a voice behind me.
It was Sia. Shit. I immediately pushed him, causing him to lose balance, but he was able to stand properly. What is she doing here? Did she see us that close?
"Hi, Sia. What are you doing here?" I asked, moving towards her.
"I messaged you, but you didn't respond, so I came by myself," she said, looking at me curiously.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't see the message. Anyway, let's go," I said quickly, pushing her towards her car.
He was standing there, burning holes in my back with his glare. I didn't dare to look at him. As soon as we sat in the car, I told her to start driving.
"Is he your boss? Damn, girl, he was so handsome," she said, glancing at me.
"I could sense some tension between you two," she added, her tone playful.
"Is he bullying you?" she asked again, her voice concerned.
"No, Sia, it's nothing like that, but he seems to have some interest in me," I admitted reluctantly.
"I hope I don't get caught, that's it," I said, looking out the window.
I want to collect enough funds to save our pharmacy. After that I will leave this city and get back to my normal life.
"Don't worry; everything will be fine," she said reassuringly, looking at me.
I hope so. I have to maintain some distance from him. I cannot seem to control myself when he is near me. I can feel the attraction between us.
I went home and spoke to my parents. They knew I was busy and always called me at nights, they told me how that the pharmacy is doing well and we will soon collect the remaining amount. That gave me strength that I can keep going.
