When I was waiting for Stellarlune to come out, I wrote a crazy fanfiction in my head that I kept changing. (I have some of it written out but not very much.) Then, when I actually read Stellarlune, I was like, "This is wrong," because my crazy fanfiction felt so much more real to me. Maybe because it focused less on the love tangle. (It's not a triangle. It hasn't been a triangle since...well, ever, really.) Or maybe because it felt like Shannon was using that book to explain all the crazy things she'd realized she'd forgotten about:
The "All the Lost Cities Are In the Same Time Zone" Issue.
The "Why Do Elf Foods Taste Like Human Foods If Elves Don't Have Contact With Humans" Situation. (Also, I thought that umber leaves tasted like plain chicken. And apparently that's wrong. If the umber leaves taste like chicken with sweet and sour seasoning or whatever (I can't completely remember that scene) then why didn't Shannon mention it before now.)
But not the "Elves Are Light Leaping All Over the World To All Sorts of Different Altitudes and the Only Time the Altitude Affected Them Was When They Were Literally On Mount Everest" Problem, which I want to be explained so bad.
While we're at it, let's ask Shannon to explain the "Exile is Buried In the Center of the Earth, But Sophie and Alden Got There Just By Being Sucked Under By Quicksand and Going Down a Really Long Flight of Stairs" Incongruity.
And the "All the Elvin Desserts Are Mounds of Chocolate, Caramel, Marshmallows, and Goo, Which is Fine (I Love S'mores) But If I Ate That Many Ultra-Sweet Sugar Bombs (Even If the Elves Make Their Desserts More Healthy), I Know I Would Get Really Tired of That Sugary Nonsense," Situation.
And the "Why Does Sophie Like Every Single Food She Ever Tastes" Thing.
And the "If Only a Hundred Elves Have Ever Died, Then Why Isn't There Way More Elves" Confusion.
And the "If the Lost Cities Were Founded Six Thousand-ish Years Ago, and the Elves Have Accurate History From Then, Why Don't They Have Accurate History About the Elves From Before the Lost Cities Existed" Thing. (My personal theory is that there weren't elves before the Lost Cities were founded: Somehow, a bunch of humans got powers (maybe through this stellarlune nonsense—if elves that already have abilities can get more through it, then maybe non-elves can get elvin abilities), really long lifespans, and other elvin things, then founded an new civilization and started messing with everything. It would explain why the elves look so much like humans.)
Anyway, this is a piece of crazy rambling straight from my brain, nested parentheses and all. I didn't even bother to edit it.
