After seojin left, leaving behind a man whose mind was occupied with his words.
Tae stepped into the bedroom, the air thick with silence. Jungkook’s pale body lay lifeless on the bed, a haunting stillness that gripped Tae’s chest. Seojin’s words echoed in his mind, a relentless whisper: *"You need to leave him, Tae. Before it destroys you both."* But how could he leave now , when everything felt so final? His legs moved on their own, leading him to the washroom, his thoughts a blur. The door clicked shut behind him, the noise sharp against the quiet. He found himself standing in front of the mirror, staring at his reflection. His eyes traced the dark circles, the unkempt hair, the hollow look that mirrored the emptiness inside him. Seojin’s voice grew louder, almost unbearable. *"You’re losing yourself, Tae."*
He clenched the sink, knuckles white, his gaze hardening. The man staring back at him was a stranger—broken, desperate, drowning in his own guilt. But the cold truth was undeniable. He had lost himself long before this moment, long before Seojin’s warnings.
Tae looked at himself in the mirror, his grip tightening around the edges as his reflection seemed to mock him. This wasn’t him—not the boy raised by his mother, not the “Taetae” she adored. The man staring back was a monster, inhuman, rap...... his soul stained with darkness. His eyes fluttered shut, trying to escape the image that tormented him, but his subconscious mind only showed him his true self. With a sharp intake of breath, he clutched the sink harder, his knuckles aching from the strain.
He sighed, the sound heavy with resignation, and moved to the shower. The cold metal of the knob bit into his skin as he turned it on, and soon, icy water cascaded over his body, shocking him with its chill. His warm skin bristled, and he shivered, but the cold felt right—it matched the emptiness inside him. His eyes closed again, but this time, a voice echoed in the darkness.
*"Taetae, listen… Always think of others, never hurt anyone, okay? You’re my good boy, right?"* The warm, sweet voice called out to him, cradling him in the memory of protective arms. It was his mother, her words once a comfort, now a cruel reminder of the boy he used to be—the boy he could never be again.
Tae’s eyes fluttered open, and the world around him tilted. His balance shattered, he reached out to the wall, his hand slipping on the wet tiles as he tried to steady himself. The water continued to pour down, blurring his vision, but nothing could blur the truth. His deeds, his choices—they were as clear as ever, piercing through the fog in his mind. And this time, the weight of it all crushed him, the realization hitting harder with each passing second.
After what felt like hours under the cold water, Tae finally stepped out of the bathroom. His upper body was bare, droplets clinging to his skin, while a towel hung loosely around his waist. As he emerged, his eyes immediately landed on the bed, where the pale boy still lay, unmoved. For a moment, his legs refused to move, as if the sight of the boy had rooted him to the floor. He found himself staring, unable to tear his gaze away.
But then, with a shuddering breath, his legs obeyed, carrying him to the dressing room. He pulled on a pair of loose trousers and a T-shirt, rolling up the sleeves as He didn’t bother combing his hair, leaving it in disarray as he walked back into the bedroom. His eyes flickered once more to the boy, then to the side table, where packets of medicine sat, untouched.
The clock read 11:30. Tae considered waking him, thought about it for a moment longer than he should have. But the thought slipped away as quickly as it came. He turned and left the room, heading down to the kitchen, the silence heavy around him.
Tae moved to the kitchen, the need to prepare food pressing on his mind. He knew Jungkook had to eat before taking his medicine, so he focused on making something light yet nourishing, keeping the younger’s fragile health in mind. The act of cooking kept his hands busy, but his thoughts remained elsewhere, lingering in the darkness of what lay upstairs.
Once the meal was ready, Tae steeled himself, deciding it was time to wake Jungkook. With the plate in hand, he headed back to the bedroom, his steps deliberate, almost cautious. But as he reached the door, his breath caught in his throat. There, on the bed, Jungkook lay still, bruised skin pale against the sheets, but his eyes—those eyes that had been shut tight before—were now slightly open, staring blankly at the wall. His fingers clenched the blanket, knuckles white with tension.
Tae swallowed hard, his throat dry, as he moved closer, his instincts screaming for him to be careful. Each step was slow, calculated, as if any sudden movement might shatter the fragile silence hanging in the air. He stopped just a few feet away, his voice hesitant, uncertain.
“Jung…kook?” The words barely left his lips, slow and gentle, as if testing the waters. He watched closely, catching the faintest twitch in Jungkook’s fingers, a sign that he had heard him.
Tae licked his lips, gathering the courage to speak again. “Jungkook,” he repeated, his tone the same, soft and cautious. This time, Jungkook’s eyes shifted, landing on him.
Tae’s gaze softened as he met Jungkook’s eyes—once doe-like and full of life, now hollow and surrounded by dark circles that made them look unnaturally large. The sight was gut-wrenching. Jungkook’s cheeks, once chubby and full, were now sunken, and as Tae watched him struggle to sit up, his heart twisted. There was no expression on Jungkook’s face, no sign of the pain he must have been feeling, but Tae could see it in the way his body moved, slow and strained, as if every motion was a battle against invisible chains.
Tae stood frozen, unable to look away, witnessing the silent suffering in front of him, powerless to ease it.
