.The room felt heavy, the tension palpable. Three figures stood by, their eyes glued to the doctor who was examining the person laid out on the bed. “What happened?” one of them asked, his voice tight with anxiety. He was a short man, his body tense, with his toes curled up in nervous anticipation, his mind clinging desperately to hope. His heart raced, silently pleading for good news.
Beside him, another man stood quietly. He seemed calm, but there was an undeniable gravity in his gaze. Somehow, he already knew the outcome, but he waited patiently, wanting to hear the confirmation from the doctor’s lips.
The doctor’s eyes, focused and intent, flicked toward them, yet the silence stretched as if it were holding its breath, waiting to release the truth.
Jin held onto the sleeping man’s hand tightly, silently praying, hoping that everything would be okay. When the doctor finally removed his equipment, the three men—Jin, Jimin, and Hobi—looked up at him, their eyes filled with concern, calm, and anxiety. Yet, beneath the surface, they all shared the same question.
“What happened?” Jin asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The doctor, sensing the desperation in their stares, paused to calm his own nerves before answering.
“Well…” he began, his tone cautious. “Mr. Kim, your brother is expecting.”
The sentence hit them like a shockwave, leaving all three momentarily speechless.
“What?” Jin stammered in disbelief. “But, Doc, we did a test this morning, and it was negative.”
The doctor frowned, confused by this information. “Did you already suspect this?”
Jin nodded slowly. “Yes, we knew, and we did a test this morning, but it came out negative. How is this possible?”
Hobi, who had been observing the doctor’s expression closely, stepped forward. “What’s going on, Doc?” he asked, his voice steady yet concerned.
The doctor sighed, visibly frustrated. “I’m just trying to understand how, if you already suspected he might be pregnant, you allowed him to go through so much stress,” he said, his tone slightly reprimanding.
“I’m sorry,” Hobi said softly, his eyes downcast.
The doctor turned to Hobi. “Mr. Jung, as a doctor yourself, you know his body is far too weak to carry a child. Yet, if this pregnancy is progressing, you need to be extra careful. His health is in a delicate state.”
“Is the baby doing fine? How far along is he?” Jimin suddenly asked, his voice filled with urgency, disregarding the doctor’s warnings as his focus shifted solely to the baby.
“Jimin!” Jin scolded gently, knowing Jimin’s inclination toward the baby but worried about Jungkook’s fragile condition. “What about Jungkook?”
The doctor glanced between Jimin and Jin before speaking again. “The baby is fine, for now. He’s about two weeks along.”
“But Doc, what about the test?” Jin asked, still grappling with the contradiction.
“It’s possible the test gave a false negative,” the doctor explained. “Sometimes early pregnancies aren’t detected right away.”
“Yeah, it could be because of the IVF,” Hobi chimed in. “We used a home kit.”
The doctor’s eyes narrowed in surprise. “IVF?” he repeated, his voice taking on a more serious tone. “This pregnancy is from IVF?”
Hobi nodded. “Yes, Doctor, it is.”
