◇SAMAIRA◇

“I can't believe you're leaving for law school already. Like, how? Just yesterday, you were a fresher in University.”

“I know right?” My sister acquiesced, catching the pillow I tossed her before puffing it and placing it neatly at the head of her bed.

She always insisted on cleaning her room herself whenever she was about to travel because in her words, “she didn't trust the cleaners enough with her baby.”

Her room was my sister, Nabeelah's most cherished possession and I wasn't even bluffing. She'd made it clear to us(I and the rest of the family) that she loved the blue-themed space to death and rarely lets anyone in it if they didn't come for an important purpose. Not even Mum and Dad.

I was an exception though. I was the only one allowed to infiltrate her space anytime I wanted because that was one of the perks of being her favourite sibling and that was a big deal because her room was by far the coolest in the whole house.

She had went all out in decorating it that every inch, nook and cranny was aesthetic. The colour theme also played a major role in giving it a divine feel that one couldn't help feeling like they'd stepped into heaven.

And urghh, the bed! It was the softest thing I had ever laid on and that blanket was gonna be the death of me. Somehow, it always managed to remain warm and fluffy even in the coldest of nights. I could legit snuggle in it all day and not get tired.

I was gonna miss Bee and I being copped up in it late at night, sharing gists and laughs.

“Remind me again why you have to leave for law school.” I sighed, the mattress dipping under my weight as I sat on the bed in a position that allowed me face Bee, who stood on the other side.

“Well, because Timothee Chalamet said he’s gonna ditch Kylie and date me instead if I do.” That was her response, punctuated with the curving up of the corners of her mouth into this simper that accentuated her angular yet delicate features.

On seeing that her attempt in lightening up my mood had failed, she let out a deep, audible breath, walked to my side of the bed and sat infront of me.

She planted her palms on both my shoulders, dark tapioca-pearled eyes focused on mine. Her expression portrayed empathy and deep affection, one that sent warmth throughout my being. “Look, I know that it gets pretty lonely with all of us gone but you've survived all these years just fine and one day, you're gonna have to leave too. Change cannot be resisted, you just have to adapt.

Plus, you have Mum, Dad and your books for company. And Munir who's around for a while before he goes back to college.”

The wryness that touched her last sentence didn't go unoticed by me. I couldn't help the loud laughter that escaped my lips. “I'll have to destroy his phone for that to happen.”
