In the dim setting of an open area of the forest, Kunikida Doppo cautiously approached the looming warehouse that served as the base for the kidnappers. His sharp green eyes scanned the surroundings with military precision, every detail noted, every potential threat assessed. Tonight's mission was critical: children had been abducted, and it was his duty to ensure their safety. Tanizaki had informed the Agency of this new mission and Kunikida was most optimistic about taking the mission which brought him to his current location.

The large, rusted doors creaked open as Kunikida slipped inside, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous hallway of the warehouse. He moved quickly but carefully, following the clues that had led him here. The children were locked in a huge, grim cell in the heart of the building. He planned to get them out before the guard realised he had breached their hideout.

As he neared the cell, he opened the door and saw all the children who had been taken hostage and quickly speedwalks towards the group of children and started reassuring them that they were all right while also checking if any of them had any wounds. After checking and concluding that the children were ok for now, the unmistakable sound of combat reached his ears. A thug, one of the kidnappers, had spotted him and was now charging towards him to throw a punch but Kunikida had dodged as they engaged in a fierce battle. The fight was brutal, and Kunikida found himself distracted from his main objective. Every punch he threw, every centre he made, was driven by a deep-seated need to protect the children. But in the chaos, he could not afford to let his guard down. His focus was split, and he thought it would be best to leave their fight out of the cell room to avoid possibly hurting the children, Kunikida started transitioning the fight to the exit of the cell room and closed the cell's door and continued fighting the thug.

Unbeknownst to him, Chuuya Nakahara, the executive of the Port Mafia, the ADA's enemy organisation, had been observing from the shadows on the ceilings using his ability, Gravity Manipulation. Chuuya, ever the opportunist, had been following the commotion, intrigued by the sight of the detective in action to observe their fighting skills so he could understand their methods of combat. He watched Kunikida's struggle to evacuate the children while also having to fight off a thug with a mix of amusement and curiosity. He remembered the time when he saw Kunikida in the tunnels of the train station and he's got to admit that Kunikida is quite the idealist with his techniques.

As the battle raged on, Chuuya noticed the children's cell. With a smirk, he decided to intervene, he wasn't held back from helping just because Kunikida was his enemy, he also despised the thought of people wanting to bring children into this hellhole. Quietly, he approached the cell, his movements swift and silent. With practised ease, he unlocked the door and saw all the children who seemed a bit intimidated by his presence but he gave them his genuine smile that only a few people were able to take a glance off, once he saw the children relax a little, he gently ushered the children out, guiding them through the dark corridors to the back exit of the warehouse.

The children were still tense but listened, and Chuuya's presence, though unexpected, provided a reassuring sense of safety. They made their way outside the headquarters. Once they were clear of the building, Chuuya left them behind tall bushes to keep anyone else from seeing them, ensuring them that they were safe now and had to wait for Kunikida.

Chuuya, satisfied with his covert operation, began to leave. As he walked away, he inadvertently dropped a blue bracelet from his coat pocket. The bracelet, worn and weathered, was a remnant of his past with the Sheep, the old organisation he had once been part of that gave him a home and took him in until he joined the Port Mafia.

Back inside, Kunikida had finally subdued the thug. Panting and dishevelled, he returned to the cell, only to find it empty. His heart sank momentarily as he frantically searched for any sign of the children. But as he stepped outside, he saw them, hiding behind the bushes only had been evacuated safely. He ran to the children and fathered them together into a group.

His relief was palpable, though his confusion lingered. Who had assisted in their evacuation? He didn't catch sight of anyone following him. Kunikida darted his eyes around the surroundings of the forest before they fell upon the blue bracelet lying on the ground near the warehouse entrance. Recognising it as something Dazai had mentioned about Chuuya's past, he was struck by a realisation. Sure it could've been anyone else's bracelet other than the petite mafia executive, but why would someone come near the warehouse in the forest? It couldn't have been any of the other kidnappers, the one he fought was a guard for the children and all the others had evacuated earlier before he got here, and he had the feeling from Dazai's description of the bracelet that it belonged to Chuuya. He didn't know why, but he felt the urgency to return it to Chuuya even though he was a member of the Port Mafia.

...

Kunikida went searching for Chuuya across Yokohama's streets the next day. He combed through the city, piecing together where the elusive man might be. It took him two days, but eventually, he found Chuuya in a narrow, grimy alleyway.

"Nakahara?" Kunikida called out, his voice firm but carrying an edge of hesitation.

Chuuya, leaning casually against a wall, looked up with a mix of surprise and curiosity. "What do you want?" he asked, his tone guarded.

Kunikida approached and held out the blue bracelet. "You dropped this," he said. "I assume it has some significance to you."

Chuuya's eyes widened slightly as he took the bracelet, a small but genuine smile spreading across his face. He had noticed the bracelet had gone missing and went back to the warehouse to look for it but was unsuccessful in his search. "I see you were the one who had it this whole time," he said, slipping it back into his coat pocket.

Kunikida studied him, noting the slight change in demeanour. "Thank you for helping with the children," he said. "I wasn't expecting anyone from the Port Mafia to be involved."

Chuuya shrugged nonchalantly. "Just couldn't resist a chance to stir things up a bit," he replied. "Besides, it was more interesting than watching you flail about in there."

A faint smile tugged at Kunikida's lips. Dazai had told him everything about his old partner, even about how Chuuya still had a kind heart under all his tough-guy act, Kunikida found it quite endearing. "You seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time."

Chuuya raised an eyebrow. "And you for being quite the strategist with your ideals, I respect that."

Kunikida smiled nonchalantly, he found it quite strange to be interacting with a Port Mafia member in a civilised manner, but he didn't mind. "The Port Mafia executive helping an Agency member, huh?"

Chuuya let out a small chuckle and smiled. "Yeah, your battle at the train station was quite impressive, it earned a little of my respect for you, four eyes."

Kunikida was slightly surprised that Chuuya was also there when he was fighting Katsura, but he didn't think it was that surprising since Chuuya had already observed Kunikida the second time, he just smiled at the ginger before he realised. "Four eyes? Really?"

Chuuya smirks and just nods in response. Kunikida decided to let it pass, it wasn't like Chuuya's nickname for him was worse than Dazai's bantering and the chaos that happens in the Armed Detective Agency and he just decided to laugh it off.

After Kunikida and Chuuya finished with their small laughter, their eyes met, and in that moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them. Despite their differing methods and organisation, there was a shared sense of purpose, even if it was reluctant.

As they stood in the alleyway, a spark of camaraderie began to flicker. Perhaps this was the beginning of something more - a tentative bridge between two worlds, built on mutual respect and a shared sense of duty.
