The afternoon sun filtered through the windows of the Armed Detective Agency's office, casting long, warm beams across the room. Papers rustled as Kunikida Doppo diligently worked at his desk, his pen scratching against the notebook he always kept by his side. His golden-blond hair, neatly tied in a ponytail, caught the light, giving him an almost ethereal glow. His green eyes were focused, and intense, as he reviewed the plans for the upcoming mission. Everything had to be perfect - no room for error.

Across the room, lounging on a battered couch, Dazai Osamu watched Kunikida with lazy interest. His dark brown hair was slightly tousled, the wavy strands falling effortlessly into place. The bandages wrapped around his body were visible under his loose sand-cloured trench coat, the strap of his trench coat left untied as always. Dazai's narrow eyes twinkled with mischief, but there was something else there too - something more profound, hidden beneath layers of feigned indifference. "Still at it, Kunikida?" Dazai's voice was smooth, teasing, as he broke the silence. "You know, if you keep working yourself so hard, you'll end up with wrinkles before your time."

Kunikida didn't look up from his notebook. "Unlike you, Dazai, I have responsibilities. This mission is crucial, and I won't allow anything to go wrong."

Dazai chuckled, a low, melodious sound that sent a shiver down Kunikida's spine. "Always the perfectionist. But tell me, Kunikida, do you ever stop to enjoy your life? Or is everything just another box to check off in your notebook?"

Kunikida's pen paused mid-sentence, a slight frown creasing his brow. He was used to Dazai's flippant remarks, but this one struck a chord. The truth was, he rarely allowed himself a moment of rest. There was always another task, another plan, another step toward ensuring that everything ran smoothly.

"I enjoy life just fine," Kunikida replied, his tone clipped. "I simply have a different way of doing so."

Dazai sighed dramatically, pushing himself up from the couch and strolling over to Kunikida's desk. "You know, Kunikida, there's more to life than work. Sometimes, you have to let go and just... be."
Kunikida looked up at Dazai, his gaze hard. "And what would you know about that, Dazai? You spend most of your time avoiding work."

Dazai's expression softened, the playful mask slipping for just a moment. "Maybe. But that doesn't mean I don't understand the importance of balance. You're so focused on order, on control, that you forget to live in the moment."

Kunikida's jaw tightened. "The moment is fleeting, Dazai. It's the future we must prepare for."

"And yet," Dazai said, leaning in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper, "it's in those fleeting moments that we find what really matters."

Kunikida's breath caught as Dazai's words hung in the air between them. The proximity of Dazai's presence, the warmth radiating from him, made Kunikida's heart race in a way that both unnerved and intrigued him. He was used to being in control, knowing exactly what to do and how to do it. But when it came to Dazai, there was always an element of unpredictability, something he couldn't quite pin down.

"Why do you care?" Kunikida asked, his voice quieter now, almost vulnerable.

Dazai tilted his head, a small smile playing on his lips. "Because, Kunikida, I see more than you think I do. You carry the weight of Yokohama on your shoulders, and yet you're so hard on yourself. You deserve to find happiness too, you know."
