The afternoon sun streamed through the large windows of the Armed Detective Agency, casting warm rays across the office. Ranpo Edogawa sat at his desk, legs propped up as he munched on a piece of candy. His eyes, as usual, were closed, but a satisfied smile tugged at his lips. He'd just solved yet another case in record time, much to the awe of his colleagues.

As he basked in his self-proclaimed genius, the door swung open with a slight creak. A familiar presence filled the room - Chuuya Nakahara, his short frame brimming with energy and his signature hat casting a shadow over his sharp eyes. The faint scent of cologne and cigarette smoke followed him in, a contrast to the sweet smell of Ranpo's candy.

After the Port Mafia and ADA put aside their differences for their collaborations together, they decided that they could team up whenever the other needed them most, because of this, the members of both organisations have befriended one another.

"Ranpo," Chuuya greeted with a smirk, leaning against the doorframe. "Still lounging around after solving some trivial mystery?"

Ranpo cracked open one eye, peering at Chuuya with a look of mock disinterest. "Chuuya," he drawled, "don't tell me you're here because you couldn't solve something yourself."

Chuuya rolled his eyes, pushing himself off the frame and walking over to the detective's desk. "Hardly. I'm here because I've got the afternoon off, and Dazai won't leave me alone. Figured this place would be quieter."

Ranpo chuckled, waving a hand dismissively. "As if you could escape Dazai that easily. But, sure, you're welcome to enjoy the peace - just don't disturb me while I'm relaxing."

Chuuya's gaze softened slightly as he pulled up a chair beside Ranpo, not even bothering to take off his hat. "Relaxing, huh? You call stuffing your face with candy and doing nothing relaxing?"

Ranpo grinned, popping another sweet into his mouth "Absolutely. Besides, I've earned it. Solving mysteries at my level of brilliance takes effort, you know?"

"Effort, huh?" Chuuya muttered, shaking his head with a smile tugging at his lips. He watched as Ranpo casually reached for another candy, almost childlike in his contentment. It was moments like these that reminded Chuuya of how different Ranpo was from the rest of the Agency - brilliant yet carefree, intelligent yet oddly dependent.

They sat in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound being the occasional rustle of candy wrappers and the distant hum of city traffic. Ranpo's eyes remained closed, but he could feel Chuuya's presence next to him, steady and reliable as always.

"You know," Chuuya said after a while, breaking the silence, "I never understand how you can be so lazy one moment and so sharp the next."

Ranpo shrugged, a lazy smile on his lips. "It's called balance. Besides, life's too short to be serious all the time. Sometimes, you just have to enjoy the little things - like candy or a quiet afternoon with a friend."

Chuuya's eyes widened slightly at the word "friend", but he quickly masked his surprise with a soft chuckle. "I suppose you're right, detective."

They lapsed back into silence, the quiet companionship between them growing stronger as the afternoon wore on. For once, there were no pressing cases, no dangerous confrontations - just two people enjoying each other's company in the warm light of a peaceful day.

And for both Ranpo and Chuuya, they both can agree that they are thankful for each other's company.
