"Welcome aboard." Hotch shook Emily's hand.
It was her first day in the BAU - she's here to do good. Based on Hotch's opinion on her mother, he was sure Emily would move in a year or two.
"How's your mother? Still in Rome?" Hotch asked.
"Italy, sir." Emily answered, a pause between the two words.
"Ah." He stood there awkwardly, seeing her smile every once in a while. "Well then, just get yourself settled down there. If you're ever confused, don't be stranger- ask one of us."
"Will do. Thank you sir." Emily smiled, picking up her box from his desk.
She walked down the steps and occupied the empty desk - the desk that overlooks his office.
"Hi there." A person said from behind.
"Hi, Emily Prentiss nice to meet you.." Emily shook the man's hand.
"SSA Derek Morgan." He took it gladly and began introducing the others: "The one on the phone is JJ, Reid's the one reading the book, Rossi's right by the coffee maker and this.. is Penelope Garcia, our technical analyst." He put his arms around her.
"Hi! Nice to meet you! I am so excited to have you here with us! I'm sure you'll be a great fit! I've done some digging on you and you seem like a nice person so yay!" Her energy didn't go unnoticed by Prentiss.
"Tone it down baby, we don't wanna scare her off." Derek chuckled.
"It is nice to meet you too." Emily smiled.
Emily began to unpack her belongings. A small succulent, a stress relief ball, her mug..
"Prentiss, may I see you in my office please?" Hotch called her.
"Of course." She dropped everything and walked up the steps.
"Have a seat please." He looked more serious than before.
"Can I help you with anything?"
"Tell me something agent Prentiss, what are your intentions here in the BAU?"
The question made her scoff without realising, "I've always wanted to be in the team. I think your team does good work and really makes effective change.. I wish to be a part of that, sir."
"Can you tell me about Brian Langley?"
"I- uh- sorry sir but I am not familiar with that name." She was genuinely confused by his tone.
Was he accusing her of something?
"You've been in the team for less than an hour and you've already dragged us into the politics world. I don't take this lightly. I care about my team deeply and if you mess with this team, I will not hesitate to take your badge."
"Sir-" She was ready to defend her place; she has earned the right to be there.
"You're dismissed." He said, cutting her off.
"What was that about?" A blonde approached her once Emily sat on her desk.
"Agent Jereau, right?" Emily offered a handshake to which she gladly accepted.
"Call me JJ." The blonde smiled. "Is everything alright with Hotch?"
"I'm sure it will be." Emily played it off.
She doesn't know this team well enough - who to trust or who to avoid. She's lived her whole life alone, she's more than capable to protect herself.
"You can talk to me if you need." JJ gave her a quick smile before walking away.
