She walks down her school hall, a smile plastered on her face as her friend walks beside her, talking on about something she tunes out mentally. People greet her, shaking her hand and high-fiving her. In customary fashion, she greets them back.

Her bag is getting heavier with every step, and her face is starting to hurt from smiling.

She sees an old classmate. Does he even remember who she is? She does- she remembers everything about everyone. That's why everyone loves her.

She runs forward to greet him, even though he might not remember her. She can't risk anyone being angry at her, she hates it.

You just left your friend back there, a voice whispers in her head. She's going to be so angry at you again- you've talked about not abandoning her.

She shakes off the thoughts, focusing instead on pouring all her enthusiasm and energy into greeting him, and talking about how school is so far for both of them.

Her friend hangs around the back, silently waiting for her to be done.

She doesn't deserve to be left waiting.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees her friend's expression pull into a disappointed one, and she walks off, continuing the route they were supposed to take together.

Oh no.

She quickly rushes her greetings, trying to catch up to her friend. Never has the crowd of people in the hallway seemed so big. Teachers and students alike blend into one mass of faceless obstacles, blocking her way. A lump seems to be growing in her throat as more and more converge together, forming one evil entity.

People.

"Hi, hi, excuse me, ah- sorry, excuse me, excuse me," she murmurs under her breath, trying to push past the mob.

A teacher stops her. "Young lady, stop pushing everyone."

The lump in her throat falls to her stomach. It makes a bigger impact than she expects, sending rippling waves of guilt and shock through her whole body.

"I'm sorry, Miss.."

She bows hastily, hoping that she can muster the right words amongst the panic clogging her head.

"It won't happen again."

"It better not."

She rushes away quickly, completely ignoring the teacher's words. She's probably going to regret that later, but there are a lot of things she's going to regret anyway. One more doesn't matter.
