When I awake I realize I'm not on my couch. looking at my phone I see a text from Bobby saying there is no need for me to come in today because it has been far too slow. It was odd waking up in a place I Knew I was not but once again I could have been just far too druck. I stand up going to make my morning coffee even though I could just as well go back to sleep I was a bit too creeped out. especially when I say a half-finished beer in the fridge and the TV off. I never turn the TV off.. or put a half-finished beer in the fridge for that matter.
I should go back to church but instead, I end up in a bar. It's not a bad bar I had my first drink here at 21 and day drinking was always my go-to on days off. I had started with a beer and a game of pool that turned into 5 beers and 10 games. sometime around noon I stood a lunch break and left to go on a walk to the cafe across the street. And well I was at the cafe when I felt it again. The sain glass, the wing grace my back, the warmth that radiated through my soul. i turn around fast, "Well hello Cass." I smile and stumble a bit because of how drunk I am. "Day drinking I see Mr mechanic."
"it's my day off," I say rolling my eyes.
"I'm not being offensive I'm simply just stating a fact." his monotone voice made my heart jump.
"Sit with me for lunch Cass?" I ask in a hopeful manner.
"Of course Dean." He smiles, It melts me.
After we ordered we sat at a 2 seater table together and with our knees almost touching I felt the comfort and intoxication more than normal. "how's your day going Cass?" he covered his mouth well he was eating "Well, And yours?" I don't cover my mouth "Good." we eat in silence for a few minutes and then I broke the silence with a drunken question "So are you a lil queer or would you say you are strictly into cats?"
"Cats? everyone likes cats. I don't think being a fan of cats has anything to do with being wired."
"nonono Cass I mean are you kind of gay."
"I'm currently happy but I don't know what that has to do wit-" I cut him off
"I mean are you romanticly attracted to men or women? Like you know romanticly." I waited for his response like I was late for something and I couldn't find my keys.
"I'm not sure I just kind of like who I like. One day I find myself a favorite and I try to take care of them as well as possible. but I don't know if you could call it an attraction sort of say."
"Interesting."
"What about you Dean."
"If it has a nice ass I would hit."
"Hit?"
"Have sex."
"oh yes uh, intercourse." he chokes just a bit on his food before swallowing
we eat in silence once again and before the end of the meal I ask one more question. "How long are you in town?"
"whenever boss calls be back I guess, could be months or even years I've been in small towns like this for years even."
"And what exactly do you do Cass?"
"I work for the Church. I travel around helping to fix up the places that have had a bit of wear and tear."
"gotcha So you at big boss men call, so that means I get you all to myself for at least another month." His cheeks flush just a tad as he takes another bite of his food. I wait for his reply for a minute, "appears so Dean."
The sound of his voice made me feel dizzy drunk right at that moment. something about the feeling of the stained glass that surrounded him and the fact that he worked for the church was almost enough to make me go home with a six-pack and invite Sam over. Something God wouldn't frown upon like my day drinking habits. even though it still contributed to them. Maybe instead I would grab some wine. God at least approves of that kind of alcohol.
"I could drive you home today." my thoughts are silenced
"Only if you stay Cass."
"well, how could I say no to a drunk man who fixed my car and drove me home. Ill even pick up some wine for us."
"Really???" it was like he was reading my mind.
