Fluorescent lights flashed on one after the other, revealing the neat row of cars lined up in Scott's garage. Y/n blinked to adjust her eyes to the sudden brightness.

Scott patted the exposed frame of the nearest rusted car. "Yeah, she doesn't look like much," he admitted. "But trust me, she's fast."

"Whose car is this, yours?" asked Cole.

Scott's expression darkened. "No. I don't race."

"Why not?" questioned Kai.

Scott sighed. "Look, you want it or not? This, plus the other four, plus my car, that's six vehicles," he said. "That gets you in the race."

Jay hummed as he circled the vehicle. It was clear it had seen better days. "Nah, I don't know. This needs a lot of work," he noted. "You think we can fix it up in time?"

Nya listed the parts in need of replacement, counting them off on her fingers. "New engine, transmission, brakes, shocks, wheels, timing belt, windshield . . ."

"Yeah, it's in bad shape, but it's the best I got," said Scott. "She did pretty well . . . until the last race."

"What happened in the last race?" Lloyd asked.

"Driver got cubed, made a reckless move," Scott explained, his eyes hollow as he played back the memories in his head. He looked up at the ninja, scowling. "Wanna know why I don't drive? That's why. I've only got one life left, and I value it. I'm not risking it for anything or anyone."

"Some things are worth fighting for, Scott," Jay said softly.

Scott crossed his arms. "Yeah, yeah. You guys can be heroes if you want, not me." He left to work in a different section of the garage, not sparing the crew another glance.

Jay frowned. "He's been stuck in this game a long time," he excused the man's bitter mood. "Too long."

"If any of us want to get out of here, we need that Key-Tana," Nya concluded. "We need to win the race!"

"Then we'd better get started," Cole said. "Come on, what're we waiting for?"

"I'm gonna check out the Speedway, see what I can learn," Lloyd informed the team. "The more we know about it, the better our chances."

"I'll come with you," Y/n volunteered.

Nya nodded. "Okay, but be careful. The racetrack will be crawling with Red Visors."

The gears in Y/n's head immediately began to turn at Nya's words. She and Lloyd had won some bonus avatars for completing optional objectives during a quest in the past; she assumed they'd make decent disguises at the racetrack.
