I'LL GET MY CHESSBOARD

Even if Rhea couldn't deny that she truly missed her mother and aunt, she couldn't deny that Hogwarts was quite idyllic during Christmas. Magnificent Christmas decorations had been put up all over the castle, despite the fact that hardly any of the students remained to enjoy them. Thick streamers of holly and mistletoe were strung along the corridors, mysterious lights shone from inside every suit of armour.
The Great Hall was filled with twelve Christmas trees, glittering with golden stars. A powerful and delicious smell of cooking pervaded the corridors, and by Christmas Eve, it had grown so strong that even Scabbers poked his nose out of the shelter of Ron's pocket to sniff hopefully at the air.
On Christmas morning, Rhea woke up early. In a way, it didn't feel like Christmas to her — despite all the lovely decorations — because she wouldn't see her mother or Lyra. But even if it was slightly depressing to be away from home, Rhea decided that she couldn't mope all day; she'd make the best out of the situation.
Sitting up, she spotted a heap of parcels sitting at the foot of her bed, barely visible in the semi-dark room. In no hurry to open up her gifts, Rhea first prepared herself for the day by untangling her braid and brushing her hair. Once she was finished in the lavatory, she returned out into the sleeping area where Hermione was still sleeping.
Rhea sat down at the edge of the bed and reached for the envelope laying on top of one of the neatly wrapped presents. She smiled at her mother's familiar neat handwriting and broke the seal.
Merry Christmas, sweetheart!
I hope you're having a wonderful Christmas holiday (I imagine you've looked forward to a break from all the homework and classes). I, of course, miss you dearly but truly hope you're having a marvellous time at Hogwarts.
Your aunt sends her love as well (even if she naturally didn't say it outright). I believe she misses you nearly as much as I do, and not only because she has the misfortune of having to take part in all my 'stupid ideas' now that you're away.
I am a little jealous that you'll be allowed to have a white Christmas (maybe we can spend Christmas together in England next year). Even if I did consider throwing some sand at your aunt the other day, it's simply not the same as a good old snowball fight.
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to seeing you again in a few months.
Love,
Mum
