I groggily opened my eyes, only to quickly shut them again. School. Ugh. I didn't want to go. I wanted to stay in bed, wrapped in my cozy blanket, and sleep the day away. But I knew that wasn't an option.
Just as I was starting to drift off again, I heard a knock at the door. "Melokuhle, vuka lapho!" (Melokuhle, wake up!)" It was uMama.
I pretended I didn't hear her and remained still, hoping she'd go away.
But she came back. "Melokuhle, get up! You're going to be late!"
I rolled over and buried my face in the pillow.
She knocked again. And again. And again.
On the fifth knock, I finally sat up and rubbed my eyes. "Okay,Ma, I'm up!"
The door creaked open, and uMa's smiling face appeared. "Good morning, my love! Time to get ready for school."
I sighed and swung my legs over the side of the bed, my feet dangling in the air. I was not looking forward to this day.

Hi, I'm Melokuhle, a 15-year-old girl well soon to be 15 from Beacon Bay, in the Eastern Cape. I'm in grade 10. My name means "one who brings peace" in isiZulu, my mother tongue. I live with my family - my mother, my older brother Nkosenye, and my father. Well I have two other young siblings who are twins but they study in some boarding school in KZN for some odd reason although we are not all together we're a close-knit family, and I love them to bits.
