JARED CAMERON was infamous on the reservation for a lot of things, he was good looking, social and was obsessed with his newly acquired girlfriend, Kim.

His intimidating demeanor often pushed others away and that meant that his social circle was made entirely out of the pack and grew day by day, girls and boys alike phasing and bowing down to Sam.

Except, Jared was the blueprint. The second to phase after Sam, the first beta and now, he was Jared Cameron. Son, boyfriend and older brother.

Allegra had grown up around him since she could walk, in fact, Charlie would always joke that she followed the older boy around like a lost puppy constantly competing with his friends for his affection and attention.

She knew him like the back of her hand. They were Allegra and Jared.

Allegra lingered by the front door leaning against the wall as her eyes scanned her surroundings, the chill that lingered in the air that would've affected her a couple weeks ago now barely a factor as the warmth from her transition shielded her from the elements.

A cigarette sat perched between her lips as she inhaled softly, the familiar ache of her lungs growing heavier with every puff that she took.

The relief is quickly ruined as the cigarette ripped from between her lips and rubbed into the dirt by the toe of Jared's sneakers, a frown etched onto his face as he crossed his arms over his bare chest.

"Jared, I've been waiting for nearly a hour." Allegra grumbled, straightening up.

"I was on patrol with Sam." He spoke after a minute of awkward silence shuffling his feet in the dirt.

Dread begun to fill her gut making it churn like the food in her stomach was about to rush back to the surface as her nerves grew, it wasn't supposed to be like this, they weren't supposed to be awkward around each other.

All of these years of friendship tipped down the drain because of a scandal?

"We haven't properly spoken since we both found out, I think this is-" her words fell short at the skip of his heart, it was subtle but there. Her head tilted with curiosity, a realization dawning on her.

"You knew." Allegra stated. "You knew this entire time and you didn't say anything."

"I promised my dad and Charlie."

"I trusted you, Jared!" She exclaimed softly, voice wavering.

"There were so many times that I was going to tell you but Charlie loves you, I didn't want to ruin the family that you had."

"Family?" Allegra scoffs. "My mother couldn't stand the sight of me and I never understood it, Bella hates my guts. Charlie was the only one who felt like family, Jared. We could've been family."

"We are family." He corrects, voice deep.

"I used to tell people at school that I had brothers, you and Paul. Even Sam." She almost wanted to laugh at herself, resisting the urge.

"I can still be your brother, I want to be your brother. It killed me not being able to tell you, I knew you would find out eventually."

"I could've been happier." Allegra cried softly.

Jared threw his arms around her pulling her against him as he tried to take away her hurt, his own heartstrings tugging in his chest as she cried against his skin.

Allegra had always been reserved never one to reach out and express herself, to see her break down her walls for him was almost too much to handle. He wanted to hold her close and never let go, the world would cause too much pain to his little sister and he didn't want to risk it.

Embry Call was reasonable, he wasn't a jealous man. He thought so anyway.

He knew it was stupid to be jealous of his girlfriend hugging her brother but even he couldn't ignore the animalistic urges to tear him away from her and keep her from himself.

Allegra was his girl, the love of his life. His mate, his everything.

A low growl vibrated from the back of his throat which didn't go unnoticed by the boy holding his little sister, a small smirk appeared on his lips as he gently grasped her arms forcing her to turn.

Embry's eyes softened at the way her expression brightened at the mere site of him, for a minute, he felt pity for those who didn't know what it was like to be loved by Allegra Swan because it was the most pure feeling of them all and he would kill for it to stay that way.

He didn't hesitate to meet her halfway and scoop her up into his arms in a bone crushingly, sickening, loving way that had Jared pretending to be sick behind them.

"Keep your hands off my sister, Call." He shouted, feigning anger.

Embry ignored him instead bowing his head to press his lips against hers, the softness of her lips almost making him weak at the knees as they moved against his.

Her hand grasped his shirt like he was going to slip through her fingers, a soft whimper like noise as her wolf acknowledged his.

A shiver raced down his spine at the noise, it was beautiful.

His hand slid down her forearm until it reached hers, interlocking their fingers.

"We should go." He whispers against her lips breathlessly.

Allegra grinned bringing her eyes up to meet his.

"Race you?"

"Oh you're so on."
