Arthur's eyes locked onto Merlin's, his mind racing with the implications. "We have to stop it," he said, his voice firm.

Merlin nodded, his face set in determination. "I'll try to disable the trap," he said, "but I'll need you to distract the ancient power."

Arthur nodded, his grip on Excalibur tightening. "I'll take care of it," he said, his voice cold.

As Merlin set to work on disabling the trap, Arthur steeled himself for the battle ahead. He knew that the ancient power would not go down without a fight, and he was ready to face it head-on.

With a deep breath, he charged forward, Excalibur shining with a light that seemed to pierce the darkness. The ancient power responded, its energy surging forward in a wave of fury.

Arthur fought valiantly, his sword slicing through the energy with ease. But despite his best efforts, the ancient power seemed to be gaining strength, its attacks growing more ferocious by the minute.

Merlin, meanwhile, was struggling to disable the trap. The magic was complex, and he could feel the weight of the ancient power bearing down on him.

Just when it seemed like all was lost, Merlin's eyes locked onto the solution. With a burst of inspiration, he conjured a spell that shattered the trap and sent the ancient power stumbling backwards.

Arthur took advantage of the reprieve, striking true with Excalibur and sending the ancient power crashing to the ground. As the dust settled, he stood victorious, his chest heaving with exhaustion.

Merlin approached him, a smile on his face. "Well done, Arthur," he said, his voice full of pride.

Arthur grinned, his eyes locked onto Merlin's. "We make a good team," he said, his voice low.

Merlin's smile faltered, and for a moment, Arthur saw something else in his eyes - something that looked almost like love.

But before he could react, Merlin looked away, his face flushing with embarrassment. "We should get back to Camelot," he said, his voice gruff.

Arthur nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew that he had seen something in Merlin's eyes, something that he couldn't ignore.

As they made their way back to Camelot, Arthur couldn't help but wonder what the future held for them. Would they be able to overcome their differences and find a way to be together?

Only time would tell.
