Dark slasher versus Barex Phantom!" The announcer yelled over the microphone.
Jim felt his stomach drop as he gulped.
'I can do this, I can do this.' He said to himself as he rose and looked at the ring which had several bloodstains here and there with a wary expression.
"I'm counting on you buddy! And please don't lose, I've already bet on you." Axel said.
" What?! Why would you do that?!"Jim was stunned while Axel only replied with a smile.
Jim walked to the ring with unsteady steps, his opponent was already there so naturally everyone's gaze fell on him.
'What's with the tension?! Come on give me a break!' Jim complained inside as he steeled his resolve and entered the ring.
His opponent was almost the same height as him. With short dirty blonde hair and golden eyes which had a certain shimmer within them. They were the eyes of an experienced fighter he held onto two short chains that had blades attached at each end.
'Interestng choice of weapons.' Jim couldn't help but admire the guy.
"Begin!" The voice of the announcer was heard but none of the two fighters made a move as they observed each other.
Jim's eyes reduced to slits as he slowly took out his swords and crouched a little bit before bursting forward with speed that was quite impressive... If you didn't have an ability that is.
CLANK! The sound of metal hitting metal rang out as Jim was pushed to the side.
"What the..." Jim muttered with astonishment.
He hadn't even reached his opponent but Phantom had lashed out with his chain, given their short length, Jim couldn't help but wonder what he was doing, that was unto the chains extended and almost pierced his side, but he was fast enough to deflect the attack but was still pushed to the side.
'This might be more difficult than I thought.' Jim wasn't a pushover when it came to fighting especially with weapons, he used to have a strict training schedule before the incident, he had always been trying to hone his body and push past it's limits.
But when compared to ability users, it was irrelevant.
No matter the amount of training, an ability user would always overpower a mundane human. However Jim wasn't planning on overpowering his opponent. He wanted to win with nothing but his skills.
'Argh!'
CLANG!
CLANG!
CLANG!
The duo clashed ferociously, Jim could tell that Phantom was being pushed back as he quickly closed the gap between them. Forcing him to retract the chains and wrap them around his arms while holding unto the blades which were like daggers.
Now Jim could fight unrestrained. His close combat skills were incredible but despite all this his opponent was just as good. Perhaps even better.
CLANG!
The sound of their blades clashing rang out once more pushing them in opposite directions.
Phantom stared at Jim for a few seconds before his lips curved upwards in a smile.
"You're good. But it's time to end this." Phantom said as he burst forward with speed that took Jim by surprise.
'Was he holding back all this time?!' Jim thought wide eyes as he managed to block a strike which was headed for his head and felt his arm grow numb.
'What strength!' Jim exclaimed inwardly as he fell backwards from the force of the attack.
SHING!
"Yield." Phantom's voice said calmly.
Looking upwards he saw Phantom hovering above him with his dagger pointed out. Jim sighed with a wry smile.
"I yield." He said loudly for the announcer to hear.
The crowd went wild as they cheered on. Axel could only watch with amusement in his eyes.
'He's pretty good for someone without an ability.' Axel thought, not at all disappointed by the outcome of the battle.
Phantom helped Jim stand up while he nodded.
"You're a skilled fighter, I hope we can do this again some other time?" He asked with a smile.
"Yeah sure." Jim said clearly not understanding why someone who was clearly stronger than he was be interested in fighting him again.
'Maybe he just said it so I won't feel bad' Jim thought as he approached Axel who was beaming with smiles with a crestfallen look.
"Hey cheer up buddy! Let's get the hell out of here before someone does something stupid." He said while throwing a glance at a group of boys who sneered at him in return.
Walking out of the bar, Jim decided to head back to the dorms Phantom followed them for a while and they discussed at length his actual name was Benjamin. Eventually he waved the boys bye and broke off from the group.
"What an interesting young man." Axel said and Jim threw a weird look at him.
"Sure old man." He said and they both burst into laughter. Not long after Axel suddenly stopped in his tracks with a frown on his face.
"What's wrong?" Jim asked.
"Shit..." Axel cursed under his breath. The next minute, a group of six teenagers appeared from the alleyway each with a smug smile on their face.
"It's them." Jim recognized the boys from earlier underground.
" Oh this can't be good."
__________
"You gonna pay up or what little man?" Two teenagers were seen with a frail looking boy as they held him by the collar.
" I really don't have anything, I swear! Jonas already took my last credit!" The frail looking boy said with pleading eyes. One of the two boys scowled as he raised his fist only to discover that someone had held him.
"Let the boy go."
"Huh?!" The boy exclaimed rage, confusion and disdain emitted from his eyes as he looked at who held him
"A girl? Let go of me you wench!" He exclaimed as he threw his second fist.
BAM!
CRACK!
"Argh!" A cry of pain escaped his lips as blood flew across the air while the boy who threw an attack was rolling on the floor in pain.
His partner stared wide eyed before slowly retreating and disappearing from sight.
"Thank you miss." The frail looking boy said as he quickly scampered away.
The girl which had azure eyes nodded before walking away. This was Amy Oscar, after the incident with her brother she had not been herself ever since she felt like going to apologise but how could she?
'He probably hates me now... I was so stupid! How could I have said that to my own brother?' She thought annoyed at herself.
'I should probably go talk to him when I see him.'
"Hey, wait up!" A voice called out behind her.
"Huh?" Turning back she saw a girl around the same age as her with brown hair and brown eyes running up to her.
"Hi, I'm Alice." The girl said.
"I'm Amy. Can I help you?" Amy asked.
"Yes, yes can we be friends?" The girl asked with a smile.
'What the... ' Amy thought.
