'I wonder how he's doing... I just hope he's alright.' Amy thought as she rested her back on an earthen wall.
The group had decided to discard Alice's advice to find high ground before nightfall. The reason for this was simple. There was no such thing in sight. The part of the planet they were teleported to had no high grounds, They travelled for so long with no major encounters and still no high ground in sight, so they decided to make camp after coming across an open field.
They had brought everything they would need along but the pink haired girl among the group had suggested they make an tent made of earth since the brunette amongst them was an earth ability user andit would be more sturdy compared to normal tents.
This layer of protection made them feel more protected even if it's just a little. Any nightmare creature above the F-rank that wanted to could easily break down the wall. But it was better than having an actual tent that had no protection at all.
"Hey Amy, you don't have to worry too much. He'll be fine. I know you're worried about your brother but he seems pretty strong to me." Alice said to Amy who turned to look at her with a forlorn look.
'That's right. Alice also saw what Jim did back in that alley. I don't know what happened to him. I know that person whoever he was wasn't jim. But whatever it was, I'm glad it did... Jim, just what are you hiding?' She thought as she stared at Alice.
"Alice, I hope you keep what happened that day a secret." Amy said.
"Don't you think it's a bit late to say that now? It's been almost a week since it happened and you're just telling me this now. But don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." Alice said with an assuring smile.
"Thank you." Amy said.
'Jim, whatever you're up to, I hope you're safe.'
__________Somewhere in a cave up a mountain. Four boys were seated round a fire, a deathly silence ensuing between them.
"Ok guys, I guess I owe you an explanation." Jim said.
"I've not been completely honest with you guys. But I really don't have an ability though... I think.
I excused myself earlier because I felt something. Up the mountain like it was calling me. When I climbed, I saw a cave. It was most definitely man-made. Inside the cave there was an orb, I just touched it and boom! I'm like this. I think it was an ability orb though because it feels like I have an ability. Fire to be precise. I think that explains the hair colour." Jim said while Denok stared at him with squinted eyes, visible changes in his appearance. For one, his hair now had strands of red, his eyes had turned red while his face was more refined and handsome in general.
"Hmph! You'll never be as handsome as me..." Phil mumbled under his breath.
"You were never handsome to begin with." Axel who had heard what he mumbled replied with a smirk.
"You... Don't you worry, I'll get you."
"So you just felt something up the mountain, went there and got an ability orb?" Denok said.
"Well the cave was being guarded by an X-rank beast." Jim said making everywhere go silent again before Phil burst into a fit of laughter followed by Axel, the laugh was just so contagious, even Denok couldn't help but chuckle.
"Yeah, right. You know you don't have to tell us. Just because you don't want to, doesn't mean you have to lie to us so bad. I mean an X-ranked beast? No one has ever even seen one. No one knows if they even exist!" Denok said as he stood to his feet.
"Um... Jim? I think there's something behind you." Phil pointed behind Jim with an aloof expression.
Turning to look behind him, a towering figure with glowing red eyes stood behind him.
"Oh Denok, meet Rolak, the X-ranked beast." Jim said to Denok while Denok and Axel just watched with fear gripping their very souls as sweat covered their faces.
"Where is he?" Rolax asked in a deep guttural voice.
'Um... Ascore? A little help here.' Jim called unto Ascore a little surprised that Rolak could tell he wasn't Ascore.
'Tell him to wait in the nether, I'll summon him when I want.' Ascore said.
"He said you should wait in the nether, he'll summon you when he wishes." Jim relayed the message.
Rolak nodded before disappearing into the shadows.
"What... Was that?" Denok asked while looking round the cave warily.
"Not what, who." Jim corrected.
"That was Rolak, the X-rank beast that guarded the cave." Jim explained.
"Who's the 'He' the beast was referring to?" Axel asked.
"A friend." Jim replied.
"But this whole thing doesn't make any sense! Humans haven't colonised this planet yet. A few humans might have been here before but that was just to scout. So how come a cave was built in a random mountain? And how come out of everyone who would find it, it was a non-ability user? and what sort of human would take an X-ranked beast and use it to guard the orb? How did you even get past the beast? What kind of ability orb changes the hair of it's user? What the hell is going on?!" Axel asked a barrage of questions that threw Jim off for a second. Truly, he had excluded some parts in his explanation but those were things that would only rise more questions like Ascore or the system, if he had told them these things, he didn't know how they would react, so it's better to just keep them a secret.
"Ok calm down a little bit buddy, for your first three questions, I have no idea, for your fourth, it just let me walk in like it was the one that called me here at first. And for your last question, I believe you must have realized this is no ordinary ability orb." Jim explained while Phil just chuckled by the side making everyone turn to look at him.
"What's up with all these questions? You guys are so dense. Just shut it and accept the fact that he now has an ability. That's the most important thing." And for the first time in never, Phil said something reasonable.
