BLUE FLAMES

The next morning...

Jim woke up and looked around, everywhere was still dark, he remembered Axel mentioning it earlier that the days here were longer than normal, he was the only one awake so he just lied down a bit and let his mind wander.

  'He never asked me about what happened back there. I guess he deserves to know but how can I explain having a dead reincarnated god take over my body and slay everyone?' Jim thought while looking at Axel who was sleeping peacefully.

  '*sigh* somethings are just better to be left a secret.' He laughed at this thought. A few days ago he was living his normal, open, transparent life without any secrets whatsoever. Now here he was thinking like someone who had a myriad of secrets.

Without anything better to do, he brought up the system interface. He had not really been able to check it out since yesterday since he was with his friends.

'I wonder if they can see the screen.'

  He studied the screen for a while before opening the "quests" tab with a single thought.

While Jim was still dumbfounded by the last quest, a voice suddenly interrupted his thoughts.

  "Shit! Hey guys wake up." Phil said as he woke the group with a start.

  "What now? Another nightmare?" Axel complained as he sat up.

  "Maybe... It wouldn't be one if you weren't in it." Phil said before rolling his eyes.

  "Look outside, it's still dark. And I'm sure we slept pretty late due to everything that happened yesterday. But it's still dark." Phil said while looking around at everyone including Jim but bore no reaction which made Jim relieved since the system was still in front of him.

  'I guess they can't see it then.'

  "You moron, were you dead when I told you guys the days here were longer? Or you're just too dumb to remember." Axel mocked.

  "Wait a minute, are you talking to me? You psychotic maniac how dare you?!" Phil cursed.

  "So what are we going to do Denok?" Axel asked completely ignoring Phil.

  "What else? Hunt of course!" Denok said as he stood up before looking at Jim with a grin.

  "Time to put your little upgrade to the test." He said.

Jim nodded before standing to his feet, they made all the necessary preparations needed before leaving the cave.

Though everywhere was still somewhat dark, the group had no problem navigating through the forest. Jim especially, since he could see in the dark. It was only Phil that would occasionally curse and mumble as he tripped severally.

After travelling a considerable distance away from the cave, the group finally encountered something.

A few meters away from them, standing on fours was a dog-like beast with spikes protruding from it's back all the way to its tail and saliva which sizzled as it touched the ground dripped from it's slightly ajar mouth which revealed deadly canines. The dog stood around 1 meter tall.

On seeing the beast, Denok frowned as he signalled the group to halt since it had not noticed them yet. These kind of beasts were the most difficult to handle since it appeared poisonous, there was a high chance that the sikes on its back was also poisonous and if it hit any one of them it would not be funny.

Jim looked on before opening the system and opened the "ability" tab

Looking at the list, he didn't remember getting the last one when he got the system but didn't think much of it as he opened the description.

  'Activate scan.' Jim thought while staring at the beast.

[BEAST DETECTED]

[NAME: TOXIC HOUND]

  ' It's a D-rank.' Jim thought as he slowly brought out his swords.

As if sensing his hostility, the beast lifted it's head before looking straight at the group.

Jim gripped the swords tightly as he breathed trying to activate the flames from within. He felt something warm spread out from his chest and enveloped his whole body including the blade. Suddenly, the already light blade felt even lighter and Jim felt as though the blades were an extension of his limbs.

  "Amazing." He muttered.

Channelling more energy towards the blade, it lit up with a bright blue colour before igniting becoming completely covered with blue flames.

The group turned to look at him in surprise.

  "Lucky bastard." Denok kissed his teeth.

There were certain abilities that had classes of power based on the colour of their output like fire, lightening, earth, etcetera...

Fire had three known classes: the yellow flame, the blue flame, and the white flame their strength increases respectively. That's what brought about the reaction from the boys when they saw his flames, even Jim was stunned but the growling of the beast quickly brought him out of his reverie.

GROWL!

The beast growled before charging forward with tremendous speed.

Focusing on the beast in front of him, he poured energy into the blades then slashed the air in an X shape making two blades of blue flame crash into the beast stopping it in its tracks as it was sent reeling backwards. The beast fell to the ground, black sizzling blood oozed from the two large gashes on the body. Denok, Axel and Phil had their mouths opened wide as they stared on like they saw a ghost.

Walking towards the injured, incapacitated beast, was Jim ready to take his first kill.
