LOREN KENSINGTON

Madelyn was doing better.

I wasn't saying that because I was just hoping it, but it was the truth.

After having slept with Emma on the holiday, it had been so much better. She had managed to sleep without waking up all the time a couple of times.

Which was good.

What wasn't so good, was Warren.

There had been something off about Warren for a long time. I wasn't stupid, I had realised but hadn't wanted to push him about it.

Especially since the past few weeks everyone had been so worried about Madelyn. I didn't feel like asking Warren what was going on if he didn't want to tell me about it.

Madelyn and I were watching a movie when there was a knock on the door. I went to go and open it to find Warren there, looking disheveled.

"I need to tell you something"

I blinked at him and let him in, closing the door behind him.

"What's wrong?" I wondered, seeing him stalk to the sofa and sit down with a long sigh.

"I fucked up"

I looked over at Madelyn who just watched him with a look that told me that she knew something about this. And that she agreed with him about having fucked up.

I frowned slightly and sat down as well, looking between them in confusion.

"What is going on here?" I asked, looking at Madelyn.

She looked away from me quickly, refusing to meet my eyes. I reached out to her, cupped her jaw and made her meet my eyes with a small frown.

"You're not looking at me," I told her, "What are you hiding, love?"

She bit down on her bottom lip and shook her head quickly, not looking at me.

"I've kept the secret really well," she brought out quickly, "And I never keep secrets from Lo"

I frowned more, not understanding what kind of secret they were talking about.

Every single muscle inside me tensed up and I looked between them, expecting the worse. I knew Madelyn, I trusted her fully.

But I still sometimes got scared that she'd pick somebody else above me. Like Warren.

Madelyn pressed her fingers above my mouth and then hugged me tightly, "I know what you're thinking, and it's not at all that, Lo. I would never, ever do that to you"

"Jesus," Warren grumbled, "Are you still going on about that kiss? It was fucking months ago"

Yes, but still.

Sometimes it came back up and worried me because I knew Madelyn was way too good for me.

I tugged Madelyn to me, pulled her on my lap and relaxed at her touch. At the feel of her in my arms, sitting on my lap.

"So what's this secret you've been keeping?" I wondered.

"It's not my secret," she said, shaking her head and leaning against my shoulder, "It's Warren's"

"Not a secret anymore, since it's nothing," he muttered.

"He messed up," Madelyn said against me quietly, "Big time"

As much as I thought I'd be jealous that they were both in on a secret that I clearly knew nothing about, it was too bad. I wasn't mad at all. I was just wondering what the secret was.
