Chapter 50 (Retold Chapter 41)

Trigger warning: mentions of unwanted touching.

I do NOT go into detail about the things Levi endured, but I wanted to put the trigger warning anyway for those of you who may become triggered by the topic. If you need to skip this chapter that's okay.

I'm not sure if this is canon, however, it makes sense as to why the Scouts continued to receive money for their expeditions and manpower when their morality rate was like 98%. I can only assume they had to go to parties or take requests from rich people who wanted certain access to them as sick as it sounds.

This is the last chapter in the third person until the epilogue so I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Excuse any errors.

"Happy birthday Journ!" Ash told her as she picked her up and kissed her all over her face. "You're getting so big. Why can't you stay small forever?"

She squealed in her arms and looked at Ash with the biggest smile until she saw Levi and then her smile was ten times as big. Ash set her down and she eagerly climbed onto his lap and threw her little arms around his neck.

"Levi!"

He smiled, his heart full and chest warm. "Hi, Journey."

"Auntie Ash didn't tell me you were coming!" She exclaimed as she pulled back to look at him.

"I know it was a surprise."

He tickled her sides and she laughed. Journey noticed Kuchel once her laughter died down. She was standing beside Levi watching them interact while holding her birthday presents.

"Who's this?"

"That's my mom. Mom, this is Ash's goddaughter, Journey," he says, looking between them.

Journey waves, a little shy, but eager to meet someone new. "It's nice to meet you Levi's mom."

Kuchel giggled and returned her smile. "It's nice to meet you too sweetheart."

"Your hair is so long. I want my hair to be that long."

Kuchel's hair was in a single braid, yet still long as it rested over her shoulder. Her dark hair complimented the mint green dress she wore today.

"Journ, stop talking these people's ear off," Michelle scolded lightly as she approached her friend.

"She's fine," Ash says while hugging Michelle and kissing her on the cheek. "Hey, girl."

"Hi, Ash." Michelle pulls away and hugs Kuchel before she takes the presents from her. She says hello to Levi, but doesn't hug him as she knows he's not really one for hugs from people he didn't fully know. "We're in the backyard. I don't even know how Journey heard you she was just coming out of the bathroom before she took off to the front door."

Journey stays seated on Levi's lap as everyone follows Michelle to the backyard. There's a bounce house set up with a sprinkler going in the grass where the kids are. The adults are all on the patio relaxing and talking amongst each other while Michelle's dad is on the grill making some burgers and hot dogs.

"I'm gonna go play with my friends," Journey says to Levi as she jumps off his lap and runs towards a group of girls her age. He watches her making sure she gets to them safely before continuing to follow Ash.

Levi sees Ash's dad, a man he's seen countless times from afar because of Erwin. He tunes back into the conversation when he hears Ash introduce him and his mom to her dad.
