The morning sun had only barely passed the horizon. Some people were already out, doing their daily routines. The trees shook gently as the cool early morning breeze settled in. And in those threes, the soft chirps of the birds could be heard. The twigs of a tree tapped on the window of Betty's room. But it wasn't loud enough to wake her up. There she laid on her bed, sleeping peacefully. Her breaths coming out softly, her body moving slowly. Unbeknownst to her, her necklace began to glow; the light flickered slowly.
A moment later, a voice began to speak from it. The voice kept calling out her name.
Eventually, it became enough to wake Betty up. She groaned as she stirred and sat up, rubbing her eyes. "What the..." she murmured. Then, she looked at the digital clock on her nightstand. It was only 5:21 a.m.
"Elizabeth Cooper," the voice called.
Betty looked at her desk and saw her glowing necklace. She got off her bed then went to get it. "Hello?" she finally replied.
"Good," said the voice. The glow matched each syllable spoken. But it still continued to glow, despite the pauses. "You finally answered."
"Mercury?"
"That's me," he said. "Do you remember that you and the other Supers have training today?"
Despite the days of free vacation that passed, Betty hadn't forgotten about such an event. "Of course," she replied.
"Good," said Mercury. "Please summon the other Champions. Training starts now."

"Gosh, it's too early for this," Reggie said groggily as he rubbed his face. Just like him, everyone else was still sleepy. By the time they gathered in the void, it was only a quarter past six in the morning.
"You'll get used to it," Mercury told him. "At least I'm allowing you guys to sleep at all—"
"We get it!" Veronica interrupted him. "You had it worse than us. But you're a freaking alien! We're just humans."
"Technically, you're also considered aliens," Mercury replied matter-of-a-factly.
Dilton agreed with him. "Aliens are creatures that are unfamiliar to your original habitat," he explained.
"Can we just get this over with?" Hot Dog asked, not wanting to get in depth with the topic.
Mercury cleared his throat, then began speaking, "Hello Champions, and welcome to your first day of training. I, 3.285, better known as Mercury, will have the honor of being your mentor. I will teach you everything I have learned in my days as a mentee—but I will also assure that it is something suited to your current level.
"Along with your training, I will teach you the ten crucial battle field rules. They will guide you in your future battles. I will help you as much as I can, but it is important that you rely on yourselves to improve and learn.
"I understand that not everyone can learn in the same pace as others. Due to that, we will practice every new lesson that you will learn until all of you have mastered it. But that does not apply to the ten crucial rules that I will teach you. They will be taught to you at a consistent pace and when I deem you all ready to proceed to the next rule.
"Do any of you have questions?"
The friends all shook their heads.
Mercury clasped his hands together. "Wonderful," he said. "Without further ado, let us begin training."
