Jughead was almost done with his homework, when his dog, Hot Dog, came to his room. Jughead looked at him and smiled, patting his head. Hot Dog looked up at Jughead and noticed that his crown was glowing. He barked and placed his front legs on Jughead's lap, trying to warn him.Jughead gave a confused look. "What's wrong, buddy?" Hot Dog noticed Jughead's crown glowing faster. Before he could do anything, the two were suddenly blinded by a bright light.

"What the-" Jughead yelped. Exactly my reaction, Hot Dog thought. They both looked around the white room they were trapped in. Jughead looked at his dog and said, "Hot Dog, there doesn't seem to be any way out of here." I know, Hot Dog thought. Sometimes, he wished he was able to talk the way humans do.
"Wait, are we dead?!" Jughead exclaimed. "What makes you think that?" A voice replied. Jughead and Hot Dog turned around and saw a tall, pure white man. They both flinched and made a startled sound. "Who are you?" Jughead asked. "Well," the man began, "you wouldn't believe me if I told you. But for now, you may call me 3.285."
"Strange name, but okay," Jughead replied, raising an eyebrow. "Now, I came here to tell you both that you are two of the selected humans to be guardians of your planet." The man said. It didn't take long before the two opened their eyes in shock. "What?!"
"You aren't the first ones to react that way. Your friends had nearly the same reactions. Only, you managed to process this news quicker," said the man. "It's not every day a tall, white, person-looking thing comes to tell you what you said." Jughead told him. "I am aware," he replied. The man curled his hands into fists, then opened them a few seconds later. Two glowing balls suddenly appeared on his palms. "Eat these, and you'll be granted powers."
"What are those?" Jughead asked while Hot Dog thought the same thing. "Power balls," the man explained. "Wait, there are two of them," Jughead said, "does that mean Hot Dog's also gonna be a guardian?" The man responded with a nod. "And, I know," he added, "these things don't look edible. The others thought the same thing. But trust me, they are." Jughead then gave him an untrusting look. "You really expect me to trust someone I don't know?" After a short pause, the man replied, "Fair point."
"But," Jughead added, "you seem like a trustworthy guy." Hot Dog shot him a look of disappointment and disbelief. Are you kidding me? You just said you don't trust this man. Unfortunately, Jughead failed to notice.
Jughead hesitantly took one of the power balls from the man's hand. He paused to look at it, then quickly placed it in his mouth. He still felt the same for a moment, but felt a surge come over him. "What did I just feel?" He said.
"That was you receiving your powers," 3.285 replied. He then looked at Hot Dog and bent down. He brought his hand out to him and offered the power ball. Hot Dog glanced between the creature and his friend. He was aware that Jughead wasn't obliterated after he consumed the ball, but he still didn't trust the creature. He responded by shaking his head and hiding behind Jughead.
3.285 chuckled and faced Jughead. "It seems that your friend doesn't trust me as much as you and the others."
Jughead looked back at Hot Dog. "Come on, buddy," he tried to coax him. "Just take it. It won't hurt you." Hot Dog looked at him for a moment, then at the power ball. After another moment of hesitation. Hot Dog finally ate it. It wasn't long before he felt the same surge that came over Jughead.
3.285 then stood up. "Now that you have received your powers," he said, "I will send you back to your world." In the blink of an eye, the same bright light flashed once again, and Jughead and Hot Dog were back at their house. "Well," Hot Dog said after a moment. "That was something."
"Yeah..." Jughead replied. Then, his eyes widened and he looked at Hot Dog. "Wait, what?!" He exclaimed. Hot Dog stared at him with a confused look. "What?"
"Y...You just... talked..." Jughead spluttered as he slowly pointed his finger at Hot Dog. It was Hot Dog's turn to be surprised. "You can hear me?!" Jughead told him he could. They both began to jump around in joy.
"What is going on here?" Someone demanded. The two stopped jumping and looked at the door. It was Jughead's mother. "Oh, um... nothing, mom." He hesitantly replied and grinned. His mother gave him a look of disbelief, then shrugged it off and told him to finish his homework.
Jughead waited for his mother to be far before casting a grin at Hot Dog. "You know what this means, buddy?" He began. "We're gonna be--" Jughead was interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing.
Words: 835 (Not much, but it's not bad.)
A/N: I am aware it's been months since I published a new chapter. In all honesty, I lost my motivation to keep updating this book since I have other books that I am currently working on. I am also aware that "The Receiving of Powers" chapters pretty much have the same plot, so I'll just summarize what going to happen in the next few parts:
Reggie Mantle and Dilton Doiley were given powers by 3.285. Archie gives them(and everyone else) a call and told them to meet up at Betty's house. Only Jughead, Hot Dog, and Reggie don't have hero costumes. And the rest of the story next chapter.
I haven't the slightest clue when I'll update again, but hopefully it won't be a year later. Anyway, I hope you at least enjoyed this chapter. Stay safe and stay fresh. 💙
