Tree, grass, and dew
whisper secrets to the night,
as horses sway to the blues,
hoofbeats echoing in the moon's glow.
I've traded wishes on a star
for the spotlight in a crowded room,
hoping to grasp a dream
before it slips through like morning mist.
Once, I wore faded blue jeans,
now exchanged for cowboy boots,
dancing to melodies that
fall like rain on dusty roads.
I stumble down the staircase,
a blue girl late to the ball,
chasing after echoes of
a forever that slipped into shadows.
Midnight rings with the chime
of all that was and could have been,
now just a memory,
fading into the dark.
Yet, here I stand,
before the lake standing still
glistening in the light,
innocent, beneath the wishing star.
