Bring your parents day

The bell rang and I walked out of my last class. I'd usually have another class after this but today classes finished early since it was bring your parents day. Bring your parents day was a yearly event which was only for first years. Parents would come in to see the college. They'd look around and talk to the teachers. It was so parents could see how their child was getting on in college.

I myself have no parents, atleast not anymore. My parents died in accident ten years ago, leaving me and Kanae behind. Luckily a man named Gyomei saved this. Since then, Kanae always showed up in place of my parents but she couldn't do that this time since she was in hospital. She suggested asking Gyomei but I wouldn't want to bother him so I was alone today.

However, I still had to be at the event instead of my dorm. The college needed  help and since I'm not expecting anyone to show up, I was practically forced into helping out. I didn't get why I was forced to. I mean making me watch everyone with their parents while I'm alone sounds pretty cruel to me. However, I don't really care about that. I can manage without Kanae. I'm an adult now. I sighed before heading to my dorm.

I quickly headed to my dorm and put my books away. I then fixed my hair and had a snack before heading to the staff room. The staff room was full of teachers and helpers. They gave me some cleaning supplies  decorations and told me to decorate a classroom all by myself. Do I really have to do this all by myself? Plus, there's only twenty minutes before parents arrive. I guess I just had to be quick.

I headed to the classroom I was meant to decorate. I entered it and the state it was in was horrendous. I was meant to clean and decorate this classroom by myself within twenty minutes. The classroom floor was full of ripped up paper. It took me a good five minutes to pick it all up. Just like that, a qauter of my time was wasted. Why can't people keep a classroom clean? It's really not that hard.

The classroom had two big white boards full of dumb drawings. I stood on a chair and began wiping them off. A few of the drawings wouldn't come off with a whiteboard eraser so I had to use a cloth and some spray. I then cleaned a few more things and another five minutes have passed. I now only had ten minutes to decorate the classroom.

I began looking through the decorations. I then took a few of them and started decorating the classroom. Ten minutes had gone by quickly and I started to hear people talking. I checked the time and I realised that people would start entering this classroom. I had to quickly put this banner on the wall. I took the first chair I could find, which was an old wooden, to stood to stand on.

I stood on the wooden stool and began putting on the banner. It was going well but I needed to do the other side of the banner. I had no time to move the stool so I just leaned towards the other side of the banner. As I was about to finish putting on the banner, I fell off the wooden stool. I closed my eyes as I fell so I wouldn't get scared. However, I realised I hadn't landed on the floor after ten seconds so I opened my eyes to realise I was in someone's arm.

"You should be more careful." Tomioka said.

"Tomioka-san? Why are you here?" I asked.

"I was told to check on all of the classrooms before parents are let inside of them." He replied as he fixed the banner. He was tall so he didn't need a stool.

"Well I'm done so you can let come in here." I replied.

Tomioka-san nooded before ticking a box on the paper he was holding. I could hear the sound of people with their parents. It made me feel lonely and sad. I didn't grieve my parents as much as I used to but it made me remember how much my mom and dad loved me. It made me realise how much I had missed them. I thought I had gotten over it but I hadn't. I put my hand on the butterfly clip my mother gave me.
