"How could you not tell me he was coming over!" Asher yells at me over breakfast in the morning. "Why do I need to tell you my every move, you sure don't tell me yours!" I argue back. "This is different Miles, he is my captain! Someone who I need to look good in front of and you totally blind sided me!" he says while shoving eggs into his mouth.
"Boys, boys, calm down, there's no need to get mad over this" our mother says calmly. "You just don't get it mom, Elijah is the star quarterback, the captain of the team, is he doesn't like me, he can make my life living hell" he explains to her. She sighs, "well Miles maybe you should just tell him next time your friend comes over?" she pleads with me.
"They are not friends, Elijah would not befriend him, he's not coming over again, is he?" he butts in before I can get a word out. "Wow thanks, you really don't think I could be friends with him. What makes him so special anyway? And I don't know, probably, we didn't finish our project." I state rolling my eyes at Asher.
"No offense but Elijah would totally not be friends with you, you are just... not his type of person. Just warn me next time." He says now more focused on his breakfast than anything else. I sigh but agree to warn him as I could care less about continuing this conversation.
"Now come on Miles, we're going to be late!" Asher yells as he places his bowl in the dishwasher and runs off to the car. I sigh, clean out my bowl and place it in the dishwasher before saying goodbye to our mother and heading out to the car to follow him.
I get in the passenger seat as usual, mostly due to the fact that I don't prefer driving anyway and the fact Asher kicks me out of the car when we get close to the school, so it looks like he drives alone. It is November so it is quite cold this morning, leaving getting out of the warmth of the car quite miserable. To avoid another argument with my brother, I obey and get out of the car at the usual place and start my journey to the school. Luckily, it's only a 10-minute walk before I entered the school doors and began to defrost.
"Asher still making you walk?" Callie asks me as I approach my locker right next to hers. "What do you think?" I state practically shivering. "I don't understand why you won't let me, or Oliver pick you up, we've offered a million times" she pleads but I shake my head. "That would be so inconvenient, you'd be going in the opposite direction of the school to come get me" I argue, although thanking her for the offer anyway. Before she had a chance to respond the bell rang, making us say our goodbyes and head in opposite directions yet again.
As I walk into Mr. Fletchers class, I see Eli in the seat directly next to my usual spot in the back. I walk to my seat as usual anyway and sit down. "What are you doing here?" I ask trying to make it sound as nice as possible. "That glad to see me?" he says dramatically as if I really hurt his ego. "If you must know, fletch is giving us time to work on our projects today" he informs me in his usual cool tone. "Fletch?" I repeat. "Yeah Mr. fletcher?" he questions. "no one calls him that" I laugh. "Well clearly someone does" he says pointing to himself.
The bell then rung signaling the start of class, so everyone directed their attention to the teacher. Mr. Fletcher goes over the instructions and expectations for this period in which we get of his class to work on our projects as if he is giving us some grand gift of work time that he didn't have to give. Once he was done instructing, I advert my gaze to Eli who was already working away on his computer. With that I grab mine out to and we start working together on the project.
By the time the bell rang for class to be over we had finished about 2/3rds of the project, making us feel relatively accomplished. Eli then gets up grabbing his stuff and leaves without saying anything to me. Not that I really care, just seems a bit rude to not say goodbye to someone. The rest of the day went by smoothly. Had a few more classes before lunch, in which me, Oliver, and Callie had a great time discussing conspiracy theories. Not quite sure how it came up, but the conversation got quite heated. After that I had 3 more classes in which I seen Eli in one of them, yet again we did not talk. Which I mean wasn't surprising, it's not like we were obligated to, were only partners in that one class.
By the time I got home I was exhausted. Not only did I have to walk 10 minutes in the freezing cold to meet Asher as it was Wednesday and there was no football practice on Wednesday meaning he drive us home, but I had to hear him complain about how slow I was. Like excuse me sir you're the one in the car of course you got there first.
I prefer when he goes to practice, then I get the car and can drive myself home and he gets a ride from someone else. Anyway, mom had a snack waiting for us when we got home, which was very delicious if I might add. While I was crunching down on an apple slice, I hear the doorbell ring and Asher immediately jumps up to go get it. I continue to eat my apple before Asher calls for me. I get up and go to the door and my mom follows as she is quite nosy.
When I turn the corner, I see Eli standing by a not so happy looking Asher. "Eli?" I ask before looking at my brother who I can tell is digging my grave in his mind. "Honey, you didn't tell us anyone was coming over" my mom says nudging me on the arm as she is picking up on the angry Asher across from us. "Oh sorry Mrs. Anderson, I decided to stop by to work on a project, I should have given him a heads up, he had no idea" he says giving her his signature apologetic look that makes all the girls fall for him at school. "Oh no worries at all sweetie, you're welcome anytime, please come have a snack, we have plenty" she says before guiding him into the kitchen.
"To be fair, I am just as shocked as you" I whisper to Asher before following Eli into the kitchen.

And thats chapter 3! I hope you enjoyed! I like when the story starts to get into it, introductions of characters can be so boring, but you will get to learn a lot about the characters and how they act throughout the book :)
