By the time 5:45pm rolled around I was internally freaking out in the comfort of my own room. What the hell do I wear? I guess something normal right? Like this isn't a date, were just grabbing dinner as friends, then working on a project as friends nothing else.
Why do I feel so nervous this time though? It's all those stupid thoughts that my mind planted last night. I am interested in girls, not guys, well to be fair I haven't been that interested in girls quite yet, but I think I'm just a late bloomer. I'm sure by next year I will be totally obsessed over women like the rest of my fellow classmates.
What am I even doing, I'm wasting time. I put on one of my favorite shirts and some jeans, spray some cologne and sit down on my bed to wait.
Well actually I spent some time trying to rub some of the cologne off onto a blanket because I didn't want Eli to think I put cologne on just for this.
Then I suddenly hear the doorbell ring, my god I should have been downstairs what was I thinking. I quickly make my way downstairs where I see my dad had answered the door. "Miles, Elijah's here" he says to me as I approach them both.
Eli smiles "well it was nice meeting you Mr. Anderson" he says to my dad shaking his hand. "You two be safe now" he says before waving goodbye and shutting the door behind us. That was mortifying.
"Your dads nice" Eli speaks up as we make our way to the car. I laugh "you're good at impressing parents, he isn't always that nice" I tell him as I shut the passenger door behind me.
"Yeah, I guess, first impression are everything!" he jokes as he starts the car. We make jokes and talk the whole way to our diner location, which by the way I still have no clue where were going and I'd feel like an idiot to ask now. My nerves from earlier are suddenly gone and I find myself enjoying Eli's company.
We eventually pull into a small parking lot where I've never been, and Eli parks the car and turns to me. "This place has the best spaghetti I've ever tasted; you have to try it" he says looking extremely excited.
I laugh and nod my head as we get out of the car and head inside. The place was small but looked very authentic, many of the tables were filled but we got in right away and they brought us some waters.
I look around taking in the scenery and it was a nice place. The lights were slightly dimmed, they had Italian music in the background playing, and it was not to loud in there overall.
"So, what do you think?" he asks me watching me look around. "It looks nice, but it's really all going to come down to this spaghetti" I joke, and Eli can't help but laugh. The waiter then came and took our order, we both got the spaghetti of course and we both got a soda.
We chatted about random thing and overall had a great time. I got to know more stuff about him like how he had a dog named Pepper, who his older brother took to college with him. He avoided talking about his parents and I didn't pry.
Our waiter then came back and gave us our food and I've never seen Eli look more excited. He watched me as I took my first bite and to my surprise Eli is right, this is the best spaghetti I've ever tasted.
Eli waits my review anxiously as he takes a bite of his own. "Ok I have to hand this to you, it's really good" I agree and Eli lights up. "See I told you!" he says after finishing his bite. We continue to eat and chat throughout dinner having a great time.
Soon we are done, and our bill arrives. I grab my wallet in which Eli grabs the check "what do you think you're doing, put it away, I invited you here" he argues as he slides his card into the check holder.
"Don't be ridiculous" I plead but Eli won't give it up. "Nope, no way, put that card away before I snap it in half" he argues back jokingly in which I sigh and obey.
After paying we head back to his car and get in. "Thanks for dinner" I tell him in which he smiles and starts driving back to my house.
The car was rather quiet minus a few random conversations, but it was a good silence. When we arrived back at my house we entered finding Asher on the couch. "Oh, hey guys, how was dinner?" he asks looking back at the Tv. "It was good" I respond, and Eli nods his head in approval.
We both head upstairs to my room and get out stuff out to work on our project. By the time we are finally finished it is 11pm and we are both exhausted. Eli ends up flopping down on the bed in which I follow. It's not weird or anything, I have a queen-sized bed.
We stayed silent for a while before Eli spoke up "you know, I wasn't too excited for this project, but you made it fun" he admits to me looking up at the ceiling. I smile also looking up at the ceiling "yeah you did to" I add.
