Until I Found You

Chapter 8

I wake up the next morning to my alarm blaring, shit is it Monday already? 

I roll over and turn off my arm only to startle myself in the process due to Eli sleeping there. How the hell did he fall asleep here? I never fall asleep quickly. 

"God turn that thing off" he groans rubbing his eyes. I quickly reach over and turn it off. Eli finally opens his eyes and he's visibly confused when he sees me. 

He looks around for a second before sitting up "fuck did I fall asleep here?" he asks getting up out of the bed. 

"Yeah, I guess so" I say trying to not internally panic as I get out of the bed. "I'll be back, I'm going to go grab some stuff from my car" he says casually walking out of the room. What the fuck. 

I sit back on the bed trying to process what just happened when Asher walks into the room "what the fuck is he still doing here?" he asks trying to keep his voice down. 

Luckily both my parents are gone this morning for work, but they will question me later about the car being here. 

"We fell asleep" I shrug trying to sound as calm as possible. "You fell asleep?" he adds sounding as panicked as me for reasons I don't understand.

Eli then comes in through the door and looks at us both, he is carrying a bag in which we both look at. "What, you don't carry an emergency overnight bag?" he questions and me and Asher both give him a look that screams, why the fuck would we and then Asher leaves the room.

 "How many emergency overnights are you having that you need a bag?" I laugh and Eli shrugs and goes into the bathroom. Make yourself comfortable, I guess.

Next thing I know Eli comes out in a brand-new outfit and looking better than ever.

I go into the bathroom after him and get ready myself before we both head downstairs to eat breakfast. To our surprise Asher is already down there eating some cereal, so we join. 

We all stay silent most of the time, enjoying our cereal until Eli speaks up "I can drive you" he says looking at me, which gets Ashers attention. 

He doesn't say anything, but I can't help but feel his gaze go back and forth between us. 

"You sure?" I ask Eli trying to avoid Ashers gaze. "Yeah, then you can take the other car home since Asher, and I have practice" he says taking another bite of cereal. I nod and continue to finish my bowl. 

Once we were done we all head to the cars. Asher gets in ours and leaves without a second thought, I'm actually pretty sure he preferred me out of it anyway.

"You can pull over here" I say making Eli give me a weird look but pulls over anyway. "Why?" he asks looking outside the window. 

"So, you don't have to be seen with me, I can walk" I add as I collect my stuff. "Do you know how cold it is out there? You'd freeze!" he argues, "I'm not ashamed to be seen with you" he adds before pulling back onto the road. 

We sit there in silence until we make it to the schools parking lot. Eli parks the car and looks at me "Does he always make you get out there?" he asks concerned. I nod "it's not a big deal" I argue.

"It is to me! I know he's your brother and everything, but he can be a real dick" he argues in which I roll my eyes. "aren't all brothers?" I add giving him a slight smile in hopes to cheer him up. 

"I'll pick you up in the mornings from now on and I'll bring you home on Wednesday, the other days you drive the car home, right?" he asks starting to collect his stuff and opening the door. 

I follow behind him, "yes, but that's not necessary seriously, you don't have to go through that much trouble, I'm fine, its fine" I plead with him in which he shakes his head and looks at me as we walk towards the front door, "That's what's happening, I will show up tomorrow morning at your house whether you like it or not" he argues as we finally make it in the door and walk down the hall together.

I can feel everyone staring, which is making me nervous, but Eli doesn't seem to notice the wandering eyes, I guess he's used to It. 

We get to what I assume is his locker "that's so inconvenient, you don't need to do that" I argue back with him in which he shuts his locker and looks at me. 

"Your house is on the way to school anyway, its fine, stop worrying so much" he says reaching down and grabbing my shoulder giving it a slight shake which makes my cheeks burn. 

"Now come on, we're going to be late for Fletches class" he says as he starts walking that way.

Once we reach the class, we both go and sit in the back where I usually sit. I look over at Eli and raise my eyebrow at him. "What, I liked it back here" he says before sitting down and getting his stuff out.

Eventually lunch rolls around and my friends have been dying to catch up with me all day. 

I know that because I've received numerous texts from Oliver and Callie, both asking me what feels like hundreds of questions about Eli. 

For people who aren't fond over the guy they sure are interested in us hanging out. I mean I don't blame them; I also was not fond of the guy and they both knew that. 

As soon as I sat down, they started bombarding me with questions.

"How was the party?" Oliver starts before Callie can get a word in. "Oh, I heard Vanessa and Elijah slept together" Callie pipes in. 

"see we told you not to go, he just left you to go sleep with some girl" Oliver adds. "Guys!" I yell, well not like a full yell, we were in the cafeteria. 

They both turn to look at me and wait for an explanation. 

"The party was fine, not really my thing but I still had a good time. Eli didn't ditch me for Vanessa, he was gone for like 10 minutes" I tell them clearing up any confusion. "A lot can happen in 10 minutes" Oliver says taking a bite of his sandwich. 

I roll my eyes but continue eating. "Eli? Are you that close now that you call him Eli?" Callie questions "Oh god I didn't even notice that, good point Callie" Oliver nods looking at me for an answer. 

I shrug "I told you, he's not bad once you get to know him" I add in which they roll their eyes but nod anyway.

"Anyway, in other news, I heard a rumor that Elijah drove you to school today?" Oliver says looking at me to see if that was true. "WHAT DID HE?" Callie yells making a few heads turn in our direction. 

"SHH, keep your voice down" I tell her before taking another bite. "He did drive me today" I answer honestly taking my time to look over at Eli table where he is talking to Aaron. 

"So, what's that about?" Callie asks bringing my attention back to them.

"He found out Asher makes me walk some of the way so now he's insisting he picks me up" I tell them, leaving out the part where he slept over for obvious reasons.

"Wow even Elijah doesn't make you walk some of the way, that's a new low for your brother" Oliver laughs which gets a chuckle out of me and Callie. 

"Oh, come on! We've offered a million times to drive you, and you never took us up on our offers" Callie nags giving me a sad puppy dog look. 

"He didn't really offer, it was a done deal in his mind" I laugh, and they nod, "I guess that's what we've been doing wrong, we just have to force our help on you!" Oliver jokes which Callie agreed to. 

"Ok well in all fairness my house is on the way anyway so it's not as inconvenient for him as it is you guys" I add making them look at each other weirdly. "Um no it's not?" Oliver questions. 

"He lives right down the street from me" Callie adds in which leaves me jaw dropped. "Is that what he told you?" Callie laughs. 

"That mother fucker! He lied to me!" I whisper yell in which they both start bursting out laughing. "I think you're right; he is better than we thought" Callie laughs.
