Patience (8-Bit x Reader)

"How'd things go, Y/N?" Your old friend 8-Bit asked as he dusted an arcade machine. But you were pretty sure he already knew given you were bouncing with excitement.

You finally let the cat out of the bag, unable to hold in your glee any longer. "I GOT THE JOB, 8B!"

"WOAH! REALLY? THAT'S GREAT!" 8-Bit cheered as he hugged you tightly. "You finally got your dream job, Y/N. I always knew you would reach this point, sooner or later. This proves me right." He gave you a wide smile.

Ever since you were young, the very first day of school when you found yourself sitting beside him, you had found an instant connection. Over time, your feelings had gotten stronger, and it continued to every day as you spent more time together, and became even closer.

There was only problem. 8-Bit was slow at understanding your signals-as well as literally being slow at moving. But you were okay with all that. You were content with waiting for him, if it meant you'd finally end up together. For him, you had the patience.

You had always wanted to be a paleontologist, and 8-Bit had always wanted to be an acrade owner. And on this day, both of you had finally fulfilled your dreams together. 

Well, 8-Bit had years ago. For you, it was only today that you had gotten your dream job. But it was still all great anyways.

"I'm so happy for you, Y/N," 8-bit said as he unwrapped his hands from around you.

"Thanks," You blushed, tucking a strand of hair away from your eyes as you asked him, "So, 8-Bit, you wanna go out for dinner tonight as a celebration?"

You hoped that was a clear enough signal that would finally reward you for your patience all these years.

8-Bit nodded eagerly, waving as you left the arcade.

You were excited for the night-more than you had ever been.

Omniscient POV

"Hi, Cassandra, I'm 8-Bit," The young man (yes, 8-bit is a human in this story) asked on the phone.

"Who?" The girl on the other end of the phone asked, confused.

"8-Bit," he clarified. "I'm Y/N's friend."

"Oh, 8-Bit! So, what are you calling about?" Cassandra finally recognised him.

"Well, I just wanted to ask you if you're coming to the dinner that Y/N invited me to."

"No...WAIT! Y/N INVITED YOU TO DINNER?" She suddenly gasped.

"Um, yeah..." 8-Bit answered, confused by her sudden tone change. "Why?"

"Well...um...it's just that...er..." Cassandra stammered. 8-Bit may have been slow at understanding signals, but even he could tell that was something off.

Finally Cassandra sighed and confessed, "Look 8-Bit, Y/N has had the patience to wait, wait for you, all these years, but I don't. So I'm going to tell you the truth, and hopefully it'll change things between you two."

"W-why?" 8-Bit asked, nervous and confused. Both of them equally present in his voice.

"Y/N likes you."

All this, you only found out months later.

Y/N POV

"8-Bit!" You waved excitedly to the young man in a tuxedo walking down the aisle-much faster than his usual slow pace that you had gotten so used to.

"Hi, Y/N," 8-Bit said, a trace of nerves in his tone for god knows what reason. "We need to have a chat."

You widened your eyes. Had your patience finally paid off after all? Was he-

"Recently...I...I've started to...develop feelings for you. I knwo it sounds crazy, because we're long time friends, shouldn't ruin the relationship and whatever, but I think it's worth a shot. I'm...not trying to force you into anything. I'll have patience as I wait for your answer. Just like you've had for me all these years."

But you told him immediately, "Yes, 8-Bit! I've known you were special since the day we first met, and every second I've spent with you has proven how true that is. All these years, I've waited to see if you'd ever reciprocate my feelings, and now..."

You stopped because there was nothing left to say. Only one thing left to do.

So, under the light of the moon staring at you from the open ceiling, you kissed passionately.

Patience was always rewarded in the end.
