You didn't know what it was...but for some reason this little amusement park you were in was so comforting. It was buzzing with activity, lively chatter and giving off a lot of positive vibes.
So different from home in Retropolis, where any sort of fun or mutual aid was a crime...where literal daylight robbery was waved off as a normal day. Where safety was the last thing that the government, the police cared about.
After your wife, your high school sweetheart, died a few years ago, you finally decided to heed the last piece of advice your father gave you before he disappeared seventeen years ago : to go somewhere that made you happy, somewhere which made you feel safe, somewhere where you believed you would find someone special, someone who would turn your life around and be the reason why you smiled.
So you headed off to neighbouring country Brawltopia...you remembered those little old tales your deceased mom told you about the haven beside Retropolis; a place full of love, laughter and good times, somewhere basically the opposite of Retropolis, like a utopia that was so close yet so far.
And the moment you had gotten here, at customer service in the airport, a friendly staff recommended you to check out some of the attractions in Brawltopia, like the Candyland, the Blue Ocean, and this amusement park...Starr Park.
So you were here. It looked pretty lively...pretty bright. You were heading to an adrenaline-packed attraction--the Thunder Falls--when you rounded a sharp corner and accidentally collided into someone.
"Oof," you grunted as you fell to the floor--the stranger doing the same. You laughed awkwardly as you lifted your head up, your eyes meeting that of a purple-haired, pretty female who looked around your age. Looking at her already kinda made your heart flutter.
"Sorry," You apologised, scrambling up and extending a hand to her. She laughed as she took your hand and stood up, saying, "No sweat! It was just an accident."
You smiled as you said, "I'm Y/N."
"Hi, Y/N! I'm EMZ," she responded politely. "Quite a nice person, I see."
"Thanks," You flushed. "I'm really sorry..."
"Ahh, it's my fault too," EMZ laughed. "I was too busy looking at my phone...a new post from one of my friends. Say...as an apology, could I offer you some lunch?"
"Lunch sounds nice," you grinned. "But I insist on paying."
"Wow, you really are a great person aren't you?" EMZ chuckled.
You blushed again as you asked, "So...where to?"
EMZ thought for a while before she recommended, "How about Cafe L'Amour? The food there is just excellent."
You nodded and the two of you set off in the direction of the eatery with EMZ leading the way as she asked, "So...I take it from this that you're either a foreigner, or don't have Instagram?"
"No...I do...but I am a foreigner," You informed her.
"Ah...gotcha! I knew that when you didn't recognise me. Not to be braggy...but...most people in Brawltopia know me. I'm a popular influencer here--one of the most famous ones in fact." EMZ seemed to turn a bit red as she admitted it.
"I can see why, with your friendly and easy-going ways," You winked. "But yeah...I don't know you. I'm actually from Retropolis...I just moved here a day ago, after the passing of my wife a few years ago..."
"Oh...I'm so sorry, Y/N..." EMZ gasped. "That's just terrible. It must be so painful to try to get over losing someone you love. I do hope Brawltopia will be much more welcoming to you than I heard Retropolis is, though."
"Me too," You agreed as you sat down at a table in the cafe. "I'm looking forward to starting a new life here...making myself happy...finding someone who wants to share that joy with me...even though I kinda feel that I already met my "one". And lost it."
You and EMZ chatted for a while about yourselves--and the longer you chatted, the more you felt that you liked her...and that she maybe liked you too...
Finally, you excused yourself to go to the washroom, and headed out of the restaurant. But instead of going there, you stopped just a few metres from the cafe as you looked up to the sky and whispered softly, "Damn...I wish you were here right now, Kara. But you aren't. And I still love you with all my heart...and miss you more than ever...but everyone says it's time for me to move on. Time for me to find someone new, someone else who can make me happy. I don't know if that would be betraying you, though. If you want me to go for it, could you somehow send me a signal or something?"
You stood there for almost a minute and were ready to give up, whispering, "I guess that's a no, then..." when a light breeze came out of nowhere and caressed your cheek like she used to do. You giggled softly as you murmured, "Is that a yes?"
The wind only grew stronger in response, whipping through your hair. You smiled lightly as you headed back to your table and began, "EMZ, I have to tell you something."
The purple-haired girl smiled and signalled for you to continue. Before you changed your mind, you gushed out, "After my wife died and I was left all alone...I went through a really tough time mourning her and buried away in my grief. But now I think it's finally the time I get over her, and move on...and find someone new who can love me just as much as I love them. And I think you and I bumping into each other, quite literally, was a sign. I really want to give us a shot, and if you feel the same, I want to know so we can start something new together. If you don't, I guess it's just not meant to be."
EMZ smiled warmly and said nothing, instead taking your hand and pulling you into a tight embrace before she kissed you lightly. Finally she said, "I think so too. I know so. And I know we are meant to be together."
