"Hi, Lou!" You said excitedly, looking at your blue-haired crush's enchanting dark eyes. "Double chocolate ice cream cone, please!"
You passed the money to Lou, but his face remained sad, but also cold and aloof. He said nothing, getting the ice cream.
You looked behind you; no one else. After all, Lou's stall was quite unpopular, as he had it on top of a mountain. You had no idea why, but you only knew he had gone through a tough past.
You had still fallen for him, though. Sometimes he gave you a really small, almost unnoticeable smile. But today his mood didn't seem good.
"You okay, Lou?" You asked, hoping to elicit a response or any words at all. But he still remained with the same blank expression, silent and basically half-dead.
Once he gave the ice cream to you, you could go. You should go. But you wanted to stay, and maybe manage to melt Lou's icy heart and help him come out of his shell.
"You know..." You murmured, taking a seat on a frozen rock, shivering from both the chill and your action-it was by far the most brave and most forward one you had done so far-"I know you had a difficult past.
For once, Lou turned his head away-a real sign of emotion that you hadn't seen in more than a month.
"So did I," You whispered sadly as the memories flooded your mind. "When I was five years old, my family fell into poverty, and we were extremely poor. My friends found out, and this bully called Chloe tortured me as she didn't understand what it was like to be short of money, since she was extremely rich. Then a year later, my mother died. I was grief-torn and heartbroken, and it got worse when Dad was arrested for tax evasion. For a while, everything in my life seemed to be going downhill, starting with me ending up all alone all the way to me being tortured by the kids in my orphanage. But then...I worked hard in school, and I got a scholarship to the best university in all of Brawltopia. And now...I have my dream job...being an architect."
You turned to Lou who was looking at you with a hint of sympathy as you asked, "What about you, Lou?"
Lou kept silent, and you were pretty sure he wasn't going to say anything as usual.
But to your utmost amazement, he spoke for the first time you had ever heard, "My parents both died in a fire, and I was taken in by my uncle, who tortured and used me. His kids, my cousins, also bullied me, hit me...the only one who was nice to me was my aunt. And one day, she managed to help me escape to an orphanage, at the cost of her own life. My uncle had her arrested for her help, and she died in prison. She was buried in this mountain, which is why I stay here all the time."
"See? We have so much in common," I told him. "We both have dark pasts. But if I got past mine, you can too. You just need some help."
I extended my hand to him, and he took it gladly and whispered, "Thanks, Y/N...you're really...special. To tell you the truth...I really like you. I may not be able to be like a great boyfriend...but I will love you more than anyone else. And slowly, I can become better. with your help, of course..."
I couldn't believe my ears...and what happened next. My lips instinctively kissed his, and I felt him tense up at first but then melt into the kiss afterwards.
When our lips broke apart, I kept my fingers intertwined with his. And together, we trod down the mountain, walking away from the past and into the future.
In the end, I had melted his icy heart.
