Note : For purposes of this story, pretend Spike has no spikes (Yes, it doesn't matter that it's his namesake)

"Hey there, I'm Y/N," You smiled as you turned around the face the green-skinned cactus boy who sat beside you. He looked...unique. But still cute, and the grin that he offered you made your heart flutter excitedly.

"Ah, young love, so sweet..."  You remembered your cousin Romeo reminiscing wistfully. Maybe this was what he was talking about...

Nah, this was just platonic love. Probably.

You waited for the boy's response, but he just continued smiling at you and staring at you with the chasms that formed his eyes. Something was...off.

Before you could ask what it was, something that looked like a look of realisation dawned upon the boy's face, and he quickly whipped out a piece of paper and grabbed a pen, scribbling on it with his face scrunched cutely in concentration.

Finally, he finished and offered another warm smile as he showed it to you.

"Hi. I'm Spike. I can't talk, but I hope we can still be friends." You read out. "Of course, Spike, I'll be honoured to call you my friend."

Spike gave you his widest grin yet.

<*~*>

"Hey Spike!" You said happily as you sat down beside him eagerly, like you did every lesson. After you had first met, you had become his best friend, and he became yours. The bond of friendship between both of you was just getting stronger day by day.

But deep down, there was some part of you that subconsciously longed for more.

<*~*>

That was basically you and Spike's friendship summed up in a quick minute or so. It had been thirteen years since you first met, and you had gone through thick and thin together, always sticking by the other's side, never leaving, the bonds of friendship eternal and everlasting.

But as the years passed, your feelings became more and more clear and abundant in your heart, making it very obvious that you liked him. Well, to you. Not to him. You had tried your best to hide it, knowing that romance could ruin a platonic relationship, and it could rarely be rekindled. Yet another problem was that everything with him was a guessing game, because of his condition. Ever since you met him, you heard yourself saying "Guess so," countless more times.

But today, things felt different to you. It was your nineteenth birthday, and you had just finished your party minutes ago, and sat down on a couch to relax while Spike, being a gentleman, decided to help you clean up the mess in your apartment. You felt like it was your lucky day that day--maybe it was chance, maybe it was the daiquiris, maybe it was both. But something just felt...special.

So you called, "Spike? I gotta talk to you."

The familiar green cactus-boy came to your side and sat down, looking at you and holding a piece of paper in his hand, ready to write a reply.

"Look, there's no simple way to say this, but ever since the day we first met, you made me feel different. You made me a different person. That's all cos you're great, Spike. You're cool, cute, you're always there for me. And as the years soared past, I think my true feelings for you have begun to emerge. It's become very obvious to me that...I love you. Not just as a friend, but romantically. More than you know."

You stopped, looking into his surprised eyes, which were wide and unblinking. It took a dozen seconds before he finally moved, and scribbled something on his piece of paper.

You hoped it was what you were wishing for.

And as he turned the paper, you read words in blue ink scrawled across it. No, not just words. "Words" couldn't even begin to describe it.

"I love you too, Y/N," You read excitedly. (just imagine it like the scene in You Belong With Me) You leaned forward and lined your lips up with his, before you kissed tenderly.

And it was...

Amazing. Passionate. Better than you could ever have dreamed of.

Was this going to the best time of your life? You didn't have to guess.
