"One ticket to Eighth Avenue, please," You smiled warmly at the person behind the counter.
She offered you the same bright smile as she took the money, passed you the ticket and returned, "Have a good day, miss."
You held the ticket in your hand tightly, not wanting to let go of it ever. Why? Well...that was because it was your ticket to paradise.
No, not literally. What you meant was this bus ticket brought you directly to the back, staff-restricted entrance to Starr Park, a place where dreams became reality, where happiness always buzzed, where all felt right with the world, twenty-four-seven.
Especially for you, because you were going there to meet Kit, an icon in Starr Park--its official mascot, always there to take photos with its frequenters and visitors. But because you knew Kit from long ago, he had kindly taken time out of his busy schedule to arrange some time to meet with and talk to you--his old friend from junior high.
As you hopped on the bus, you reminisced fondly about the day you met Kit...a day that started so awfully and ended brighter than ever before.
You sobbed silently as you ran into the school, your tears matching the pouring rain all around you as your father called for you to come back from inside the car, because it was all wet, slippery and blah blah blah. You didn't care at all.
How could you, when you had just learned the previous night that your parents, who you had never seen fight before, were getting a goddamn divorce which would be finalised in three days? And that you would never see your mother again because your father won custody of you and didn't want her to ever meet the two of you again?
Still crying, you rushed into class, not bothering about how the rest of the school was empty and dead silent. When you reached your classroom, you were surprised to see that the lights inside were already on. You were usually the first one to reach, after all.
You pushed open the door lightly, and almost jumped when beautiful black eyes poured into your own, twinkling.
You quickly wiped the tears off your eyes and stammered, "H-H-Hi..."
The boy, who must be a new student in the class, asked in concern, "Um...are you okay? Is something wrong?"
You sealed your mouth shut as best as you could, but in the end you ended up spilling the truth to him in excruciating, painful detail. And when you were done, he hugged you tightly and said, "You'll get through this, random classmate who I just met."
For the first time in half a day, a small smile made its way onto your face. "Y/N," You said as you extended your hand.
He shook it lightly as he introduced himself, "Kit. I'm starting here today after I transferred from the city just nearby, Alvatoa."
Since then...your friendship had grown so much.
You had finally reached your stop, and you eagerly got off the bus to find Kit waiting for you.
"Y/N!" Kit greeted you excitedly as he took your hand and led you inside the building, until you finally reached his office.
He pushed open the door to reveal the familiar room which you had found yourself in, talking to Kit animatedly, multiple times.
"You know, I was just thinking about the day we first met," You told him. But now you were thinking about something else--the love for him that had been bubbling in your heart since that very moment. Love hurt so much when the other person didn't like you back, and yet there was nothing you could do to get yourself rid of those butterflies in your stomach every time you gazed into their eyes.
"Oh?" Kit asked. "What part exactly?"
You wanted to blurt out, "The part where I fell in love with you". But you didn't have the courage, so you stuck with, "Just...how emotional I was."
You felt like punching yourself when he merely nodded. Not the reaction you were hoping.
Then you remembered something he had told you a few years ago.
"Everything is worth a shot, Y/N. You just have to be brave enough to step up and fire."
So you clenched your fists, hoping it would somehow give you good luck as you said, "Truth is, Kit...I wasn't really thinking about that moment. You have to promise not to freak out...but...I was thinking about the seconds after you comforted me. The seconds...when...I fell in love with...you."
You expected Kit to jump up in shock, or suddenly panic or something, or run away from you. But instead his eyes glowed as they pierced into yours as he whispered, "Well...looks like we both know that moment exactly the same."
Your eyes widened as Kit leaned in, and you shut your eyes as you waited and...
Your lips touched tenderly, and at the very moment you felt like melting into nothing. It was so good, you would do anything to feel it again. Kit was already amazing enough...but even so he was more than met the eye.
And there was no way you'd ever give up on him. On it. On this.
So you wrapped your hands around his back as you fell into the trance of that one, perfect kiss. The one that you would never forget.
