The next day I comes in, ready to take on the final week of my shift before my holiday. Every colleague greeted me.

"Hiya", said Carol.

"Morning", said Mildred.

I waved at them all, acknowledging that they're all there.

Just as I was about to start my shift, an announcement came.

"This is a staff announcement, can Lydia Scott please come to the upstairs office please. Thank you!"

Even though I knew that my boss wanted to speak to her, this was unusual, as it sounded concerning.

I entered my boss' office, Arthur Thomas. He is a good boss to me, but this time it was a more concerning matter.

"Thanks for coming in today Lydia", said Arthur.

"No worries", I replied, "What was it you wanted to speak to me about?"

"Well..." and it was a very worrying "well, "we had a call from a relative of a regular customer. They claim that Margaret is ill, after eating a product that's two months out of date. And because of that, she is now rushed to hospital through food poisoning." This rocked her world to the core, "Now I know you didn't do it at the time, but all the evidence points to you. And until we can obtain the CCTV footage, we may be involved with the police."

I was trying to get my head around it. I asked Arthur, "Why can't we gain the footage now?"

Arthur looked more disappointed, "Well there has been a technical fault within the branch, and because of it, there's been a delay in obtaining the footage. And it won't be until the end of the week we get it, maybe even longer."

"But I go on holiday at the end of the week. They can't do that!"

"I'm afraid they can", Arthur said sadly, "unless..."

I peeked an interest, "Unless what?"

"You can solve the case?"

I took this onboard. But then I realised something, "Surely the investigation team should do this. They're the experts."

"Maybe", Arthur replied, "But you know the shop better than anyone else. And the sooner we find out who it is, the sooner you can go on holiday. So what do you think?"

I was unsure at that point, and hurriedly headed out of the room in tears. Arthur watches on, devastated and frustrated.
