The next day, me and Adam went to the customer's house in question. We were greeted by her two grandchildren, Alisha and Simon. They felt uneasy, but they let us in.
"Listen", I told them, "we're not police. But we need you to answer some questions, just so that if this does turn into a police investigation, we have evidence. Okay?"
They both nodded, still feeling uneasy.
Adam was next to ask his question, "What did you first notice?"
"Well..." answered Alisha, "we noticed she had severe toilet troubles. We thought it might be diarrhoea. But it's been happening for about a month or so. Then she started to get sweaty."
"Yeah", Simon stepped in, "Last time this happened it wasn't as bad. This time it seemed to have got worse."
I picked up on this, "Wait, what did you mean, worse than last time?" I asked, "Are you saying she was ill before?"
Alisha gave off a big sigh, "Yeah. we even got the dates here." She handed over a list to me and Adam, "3rd October 1st May, and now 25th July. So it's happened three times."
"Has she ever been treated for it?" asked Adam.
"The hospital have helped her out", Simon answered, "But after the pandemic, it's been ages just to get a doctor's appointment. We can't afford to go private. So we don't know what to do."
"Don't you have your parents to help you?" I asked.
"No", Alisha answered, "Our parents walked out on us when we were young. Gran always looked after us as if we were her own."
Me and Adam looked at each other with a worrying look. "Well that's all we need for today. We'll pass this over to our boss, and once we get more information, we'll get back to you ASAP."
"Thank you", praised Simon, as he gave me this weird look. Something felt off about that, but I had more important things to think about, as me and Adam walked out of the house.
Me and Adam returned to the shop, and we both deflated onto the canteen sofas. This visit left us with more questions than answers.
"Well. so much for that case."
Adam tried to reassure me, "Well it could be worse."
"How?" I asked.
"We could be in another lockdown".
"Oh you're such a twat sometimes", I replied as I threw a pillow at him, "Still. That's my holiday cancelled. And to think David Beatz actually thought I could do it."
Adam was gobsmacked when he heard it, "Wait, he called you?" he asked
I just reacted as if it didn't happen, and casually replied with a, "yeah".
"Lucky! I can't believe he said that, and then spending your holiday looking for the culprit who poisoned Deidre."
Then something rang a bell, "You know what Adam. You might be onto something."
Adam was confused, and asked me, "What do you mean?"
"Come with me".
We headed back down to the main office. And I typed in 27th October, 1st May and 25th July. I felt that we were finally making a breakthrough.
"Adam. Get Arthur in", I demanded, "We may be onto something."
