With the end of the week coming up, and my holiday nearing, that was the last thing on my mind. I had just been interviewed by the police, and thankfully they let me go, but they said they will be back for questioning. Adam came up to me, knowing what he has heard,
"How did it go?" he asked.
I slouched my head, "It was okay", I replied, "but they're coming back for me soon. Apparently, they need to ask me "more questions".
Adam was enraged, "But that's ridiculous. You've answered everything you know".
"I know", I replied, full of fury, "And I told them that. But I guess no one wants to listen to a supermarket assistant, ey?"
Adam knew there was nothing he can do, other than look at me sympathetically. "Right, well I need to get back to work. Message me when you get news, yeah?"
I simply nodded, and he made his way back to work.
Just before I left, I did my usual last minute grocery shopping. I then bumped into a familiar face... Simon.
"Hey", I greeted.
"Hey", he replied.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well since our grandma... you know..." he took a breath as he tried to carry on, "I'm the one doing the shopping now."
"Where's Alisha?" I asked.
"She's staying with a friend for a bit. She needed some space and I said that's fine. She has her way of dealing with it."
I was cautious of Simon's safety. I simply asked him, "What about you?"
"I'll be okay. I just need to live my life to the full. That's what grandma would've wanted."
"Of course", I replied.
Simon then built up the courage to ask me a question, "Listen. I know you're practically free for the whole week now and..."
"How did you know?" I asked.
"One of your other colleagues mentioned it. Anyway, do you fancy going out for dinner sometime? Tomorrow maybe?"
I gave a thought about it. "I'll check my calendar", I replied.
He smiled as he walked into the shop. I looked passed him and smiled, as I thought this was what I needed.
The next day, I was finishing getting ready for my evening out. My dad came in and noticed me all smiley.
"Darling", he stated, "You're under investigation. How can you seriously going on a date at a time like this?"
"Well it's not just any date," I replied, "It's the victim's grandson. So maybe this'll help both of us."
My dad was understanding but still concerned, "I just don't want you to get too deep. Especially not now."
"I know", I responded with gratitude, "And I'm grateful you're looking out for me. But right now worrying won't change anything. So if this to be one of my last nights of freedom, I need to make the best of it."
My dad then just simply left me to it, as I headed out of the door.
