I hear those familiar footsteps approaching my room again, and as usual, I get ready. My whole body tenses under the blanket, and I can hardly wait, as always, to wish my brother a wonderful good morning.
The door opens slowly, the tension in my body increases, and I hear the footsteps coming closer. The moment he stands next to my bed, I jump out and land directly in his arms. "Good morning, big brother!" I shout as loudly as I can.
My brother smiles at me and places his hand on my head. "Good morning, little sister. Get ready while I make breakfast."
"No, I want to make breakfast today!" I immediately shout. "I helped Aunt Mikoto every day to learn how to support you."
He smiles gently. "I'm looking forward to your help."
I run into the kitchen, full of energy and determination, and start preparing breakfast.
I grab the ingredients, chop vegetables, crack eggs, and stir everything together just like Aunt Mikoto showed me. There's splattering and mess everywhere, but I'm determined to make the best breakfast ever.
When I'm finished, the kitchen looks like a battlefield, but I'm proud that I managed it. I really hope it will taste good to him.
"Big brother, breakfast is ready!" I call out proudly.
He stays outside for a moment longer, looking very thoughtful. Then he stands up and comes to the table where I'm already waiting impatiently for him to try the food. He smiles at me gently.
"From today on, you're in charge of breakfast. It tastes really excellent," he says lovingly.
I nearly burst with pride. It's a wonderful feeling to know that I can support my brother. But what really makes me fidget in my chair is the hope that we'll train today and that I can show him everything I've learned. He notices my impatience.
"We're waiting for Itachi. He'll definitely want to see your progress too, and then we'll go train. But we mustn't forget to buy a present for Sasuke after the training. He'll be two years old next week."
I'm thrilled by what he said. We're really going to train today! Then it occurs to me, if Sasuke is turning two, I'll be five the day after. That means it's only one more year until I can go to the academy. I'm so excited and would love to go today.
There's a knock at the door, and I run straight to it to let Itachi in. "Good morning, big brother Itachi! Do you want something to eat? I made breakfast today."
He looks at me in surprise. "Good morning, Yukari. I'd love to have some of your breakfast."
I take him by the hand and lead him to the kitchen. I know he knows the way, but he lets me lead him. It makes me happy to show him my breakfast.
After Itachi has also eaten, and I'm getting more and more impatient, fidgeting in my chair, my brother finally says:
"Well then, let's go. I'm curious to see what progress you've made."
My eyes light up with excitement. Finally, I can show the two of them what I've learned. We head to the training ground, and I feel like a real ninja, with the shuriken pouch on my leg that Uncle Fugaku gave me.
We make a quick stop in the village where my brother buys a white band. He ties it around his arm and says:
"To see your progress, today you'll try to take this band from me. Everything is allowed—Sharingan, shuriken, ninjutsu, and taijutsu. You can start thinking about your strategy," he explains with a smile.
