After Daemon and Laena's marriage, Evaelysse grew restless. She enjoyed Laena's company but missed her own mother. She often sought the company of Caraxes, as she found him comforting. However, she was still young and occasionally got lost on the Dragonmont. On one of these days, she completely missed Caraxes lair and continued walking further and further through the deep caves.

As she wandered deeper she began to hear slow breathing from one of the caves. Evaelysse was curious, and she poked her head around one of the large rocks at the entrance. Inside, she could see an enormous bronze dragon, sleeping among the rocks. Maybe if she had been older, she would've known to be scared, but being young she just thought that he would be as friendly to her as Caraxes. She sauntered into the cave, arms outstretched, and went to hug the dragon.

Evaelysse stroked his nose just as she would've to Caraxes; however, this dragon wasn't appreciative of being awoken. He opened one eye, which was nearly the same size as Evaelysse, and stared at the toddler in front of him. The young princess stared back, almost aware of the mistake she had made.

The dragon curled his lip up, before roughly shoving Evaelysse to the ground. She stared up at him in shock, hands grazed, as he got to his feet. He was easily the largest dragon Evaelysse had ever seen, and also the loudest. The dragon screeched at the young girl, clawing at the ground with his feet, before preparing to burn her.

However, in the same moment, Evaelysse began to cry. She was tired, and her hands hurt, and the dragon was scaring her. She held her head in her tiny hands, wiping blood across her silver hair.

The dragon in front of her seemed almost shocked at her reaction, and he slowly pressed his snout against her side, before stepping forwards and lying down beside her.

Evaelysse peeked at him through her fingers, tears still running down her face, but she outstretched her arms to stroke the dragons bronze scales. He huffed at her, swathing the princess in his hot breath.

When Daemon found out his daughter was missing, he was furious. He went storming through the castle in the search for Evaelysse, and got even more angry when Laena suggested that she may have wandered outside.

"I want every maid, guard and knight to search for my daughter." Daemon instructed, hand on the hilt of his sword. "And if anything has happened to her, then I'll personally feed you all to Caraxes."

Him and Laena first went to search Caraxes lair, as Evaelysse often enjoyed spending time with him, however Caraxes was fast asleep with no toddler in sight.

"She'll be okay." Laena assured him. "Evaelysse is a smart girl."

However, as she said that, they both heard the loud screech of an angry dragon from deeper in the caves. Daemon had completely forgotten about the other dragons in the Dragonmont, and now he could've fed himself to Caraxes for being so forgetful.

Daemon and Laena glanced at each other before he began to run. He willed his feet to move faster, for the path to be shorter, and in his mind he was praying that Evaelysse hadn't wandered into the lair of one of the dragons in the Dragonmont.

As he got to the short bend before a larger cave, he heard it. Evaelysse's giggle. Daemon turned the corner, praying that he was making things up, but the he saw her. She was clambering across the wing of Vermithor, of all dragons, and what made it worse was that the enormous beast was just letting her.

"Father! Look!" Evaelysse laughed when she caught sight of him. She crawled down Vermithor's wing before scuttling over to his snout. "My dragon! Mine!"

Daemon sighed in relief as he realised that Evaelysse was going to be okay. Laena rested her head against his arm, as Daemon smiled triumphantly at his daughter. It was only fitting that his first child would bond with the second largest living dragon.
