Day of coronation, I was terrified. I hated large crowds and even though i won't be the center of attention, today i'd be in the midsts of all of Auradon. Families from Neverland were even making their way to the coronation.
"You okay, princess?" Mattheo asked next to me in our carriage.
I nodded. "Just nervous."
"Here, Mal made another batch," he handed me another cake, the same as last night.
"Thanks," I looked at the cake for a moment, knowing he was trying to unspell me. Too late, i guess.
"Wait until the coronation starts, you know a little extra strength to get you through the ceremony," he told me.
"Or i'll have it now," I took a bite of the cake again, except this time i knew what spell was in the treat and I planned to confront him about it.
"No, don't!" he shouted as i chewed. "Do you still love me?" he asked.
"Let's see, wait a little to see if the anti-love potion wears off," i said nonchalantly
"Okay," i settled back down into his seat, but immediately jerked up again, "Wait, what?"
"I know you spelled me," I told him.
"How long have you known?"
"Known since last night, been unspelled since our date at the enchanted lake,"
"So this whole thing has been a lie?"
"I'm not one to lie," I took his hand in mine.
"You're not mad?" He asked.
"Look, I get it, you didn't think it could happen because of our parents, but it can. And you didn't have to spell me for it to happen."
"Right, our parents," he said.
"Wave," I instructed, raising my right hand and waving to the masses, smiling at a little girl at the very front of the crowd.
We arrived at the doors. Ben's carriage was three more carriages behind us, since he was the guest of honor he arrived last. Matt got out and stuck out his hand, helping me down.
"Thank you, kind sir," i teased.
"Anytime, milady," he smiled up at me.
Once i was on solid ground, i smoothed out my dress. My floral-purple dress was all thanks to Evie. It even had pockets(my personal favorite part). She was a great designer.
Mattheo and I walked down the aisle and towards my parents. We took our seats next to them, Mattheo on the far side next to me and more importantly further from my parents. "Hey guys," i greeted my parents.
Eugene was no where to be seen, not to say that minded his absence. In fact, I'd be happy if he didn't make an appearance this afternoon, i couldn't deal with him after what he said at Parents Day.
The silence between the four of use became awkward very fast. I didn't know what to do.
"You know Mother Gothel," Matt started.
"Nuh-uh, not right now," I immediately shut that conversation down, taking his hand.. As much as it'd be easy for my mother and Matt to bond of their shared trauma it doesn't need to be done whilst talking over me.
"Dad, aren't you going to say hi to Mattheo?" i asked.
"Hello, Mattheo. How's your mother?" he asked.
"Dad!"
"No, Ryder, it's fine," Matt said, "She's still a manipulative mastermind, i'd have other choice words to say about her but i don't think it's the right time or place,"
"Oh, i like you," He laughed as Matt put down Mother Gothel.
"That's all it took?" I questioned. "I thought you were going to make a big deal about this,"
"Well, me and your mother talked it over last night, and we're willing to give him a fair chance. We were biased last night, it wasn't fair to either of you," my dad explained.
"So you're not going to be an intolerant ass?" i joked. Fine i was only half-joking.
"No. And you need to watch your mouth, even your mother didn't have this hard of a time adapting to royal life and you were born into it," my dad joked right back.
"I'll try, just like you're trying with Mattheo,"
"I like that mentality dear, but it's time to be quiet, Ben's walking in," my mom interrupted.
Mal quickly joined us on the other side of Mattheo. We all stood and watched as Ben made his way up to the platform where his parents were.
"He looks very king-ly," i mentioned as I curtsied. It always felt weird curtsying for Ben, he was such a close friend i sometimes forgot about his royal-ness.
"Yes he does, honey, he'll make a great king," My mother said from beside me.
Fairy Godmother walked up the stage as Ben took his sweet time approaching it. She took the crown off of Beast's head and walked in front of Ben. She placed the crown on his head, in the royal fashion. Beast uncovered Fairy Godmothers wand. The whole ceremony was going much faster than expected, not to my complaint.
These things were often long and boring, I was more than grateful for the quickness of this one. Everything was running smoothly. It was perfect.
Belle took the wand off the stand and handed it to Fairy Godmother.
"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of the United States of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?" Fairy Godmother recited the prewritten words of the coronation.
"I do solemnly swear." Ben replied.
"Then it is my honor and my joy to bless our new king." Fairy Godmother taped each of his shoulders with the wand, changing his title from Prince Ben to King Ben. "We're friends with a king, now," i nudged Mattheo's side and smiled.
"Yes, you are, Princess,"
He had barely finished speaking when someone snatched Fairy Godmother's very powerful wand from her hands.
