MATTEOS POV:

Mal had papers splayed out in front of us. We were going over the plan to get the wand. We only had a little more time here in Auradon, the wand was about to be ours.

"Okay, we all know what this looks like. So, we'll be up on the dais under the Beasts spell jar and we'll be coming in from here." Mal said as she pointed to a spot on the map. "Matt and I will be in the very front. You three will be up in the balcony."

"Okay." Evie whispered.

"Okay, so i'll find our limo, so we can break the barrier and get back on the island with the wand." Carlos repeated the plan that we had gone over a multitude of times.

"Perfect," Mal responded, "Evie?"

"Yeah?" Evie looked at her.

"You will use this to take out the driver. Two sprays and he'll be out like a light," Mal said handing the perfume bottle over to Evie.

Evie didn't seem too happy about the whole thing. She was enjoying her life here at Auradon.

Mal sat down in front of her spell book as the rest of us dispersed from the table.

"M? You want to break Ben's love spell?" Evie asked Mal.

"You can break the spell?" I sat up.

"Yeah, to both questions." Mal said, "You know for after. I've just been thinking, you know," I walked over to them as Mal spoke, "when the villians finally do invade Auradon, and begin to loot and kick everyone out of their castles and imprison their leaders and destroy all that is good and beautiful, Ben still being in love with me just seems a little extra cruel,"

"Can you make two?" I asked, reading over the spell's recipe.

"Yeah, don't want Ryder fawning after you anymore?" Mal questioned.

"Exactly," i answered, only slightly lying.

That night Mal and I were in the kitchen baking the un-love spell.

"I think i might miss this place," i said, taking a few chocolate chips into my mouth.

"Getting soft on me, Matt?" Mal asked, taking a break from stirring the batter.

"Nah, i'm still rotten. You?" I asked her.

"To the core." She assured me. "Will you preheat the oven to," she looked at her recipe, "four hundred degrees,"

"So, tell me, M, what's the real reason you don't want the spell on Ben anymore?" i asked.

"Like i said, just seems too cruel."

"I'm not buying that for a minute," i rolled my eyes at her.

"Fine. I just, i don't know, he's so good. But not in the aggregating way. He's great. I guess i just wish we didn't have to do this. He makes me–"

"Happy?" i finished her sentence.

"I guess. And i hate it," she said, which mad me laugh. "So i can assume you have the same reason for breaking the spell on Ryder?"

"She just, i don't know, gets me. That's the most Auradon Kid thing i could've said, but i just mean she doesn't judge me for my mom or even how i was on the Isle."

"I kinda hate our parents right now," she laughed, sniffling with the tear that fell down her cheek. I jumped up and wiped it away and into the batter, completing the recipe.

"Me too, M."

"One day, promise me, you will find this feeling again. I want you to be this happy again."

"One day, i will, Mal."

"Good, because, Matt, you deserve to be happy."

"You do, too, don't sell yourself short,"

"I won't,"

"Good, now, while these cook, should we rummage for the good food we don't get on the Isle?" i suggested.

"Absolutely, Matty," she laughed and headed over to the fridge, grabbing the chocolate and strawberries.

"Do you see raspberries in there?"

"What is a raspberry?" she asked.

"It's a bumpy red fruit and it's delicious,"

"No, what's delicious is strawberries." she said holding one up.

"Raspberries are better,"

"No way. You haven't even tried a strawberry,"

"And you haven't had a raspberry,"

"Fine. We both try one of each,"

"Deal," i shook her outstretched hand and took a strawberry in my hands. She grabbed a raspberry and popped it into her mouth as i bit into the berry i held.

"Okay, very good. Raspberries are better," i said.

"No way! Strawberries."

"you're insane,"

"no you are crazy just like your mother,"

"were bringing up mothers? Let's bring up the tantrum your mother threw because she didn't get an invite," i laughed, and she eventually joined in too.

Mal and I were close. Insanely so. Not in way that she was close with Evie, but in our own way. Mal and I shared a secret. Something only we knew about the other. We swore to secrecy when we found out. But, you'll learn more about that later.
